Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hongman Choi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Benjamin Akebono!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akebono sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Choi, as that shot connected.

Akebono looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Choi trying to control from the bottom.
Akebono perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Choi wants to stand back up but Akebono manages to pass into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Akebono happy to just control the position for now.

Akebono has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Akebono goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Akebono pushes Choi up against the cage in a clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Choi missing with knees to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Akebono lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Akebono.
Choi tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Akebono wants the takedown. Choi is fighting it off but Akebono persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Choi's guard against the cage.

Choi can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Akebono controls the pace.

Akebono decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Choi, up you get!

Akebono takes the fight into the clinch.
Akebono tries to circle away but Choi has him pinned against the cage.
Akebono has Choi pressed against the cage, preventing Choi from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Akebono pulls guard effortlessly.
Choi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Akebono on the ground.

Akebono is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Choi rolls with it to try and escape but Akebono cranks on the arm and Choi is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
