The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gans connects with a nice looking jab.

The Blowfish shoots for a double leg takedown but Gans sprawls well. He's pushed The Blowfish's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Gans lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but The Blowfish circles away quickly and effectively.

Gans throws a combination. The Blowfish tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
The Blowfish shoots in looking for a takedown. Gans tries to sprawl out of it but The Blowfish keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gans manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
The Blowfish dives in and grabs Gans's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gans pushes down on The Blowfish's head and hops out.
Joe Gans has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tom The Blowfish.

Gans shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. The Blowfish eats them both and turns towards Gans to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
The Blowfish shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gans as he jumps to the side.
Gans throws a right and a left that both miss.
The Blowfish shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gans pinned against the cage. Gans gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Gans is squirming around, avoiding The Blowfish's attempts to control the action.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
