PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Potter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wilson Maughan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Potter comes into the arena with Super Sharp Shooter - The Ganja Kru blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Ryan Potter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Wilson Maughan!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Glass and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Potter shoots in but no luck this time.
Potter has his takedown stuffed
and Maughan counters with a left and a right that stings Potter.
Potter shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Maughan but Maughan pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryan Potter. That's going to take a lot out of him.
No luck for Potter with that takedown attempt.
Potter fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Potter swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Maughan wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Maughan blocks a jab.

Maughan lands with a hook. Potter tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Maughan moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Potter misses with a takedown attempt - Maughan sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Potter throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Maughan's waist but Maughan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Potter off to one side.
Ryan Potter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Potter scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Potter creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Maughan sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Potter tries for a kimura but Maughan is defending well.
You can see the frustration on Maughan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Potter misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Maughan tries to buck Potter off but Potter is having none of it.

Potter goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Maughan rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Potter's guard! Nice work there by Maughan!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Potter is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Maughan defends well.

Potter escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Maughan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Maughan has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Potter is proving hard to escape from.

Potter manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Maughan is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Maughan displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Potter.

Potter tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Maughan swivels and escapes.

Potter shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Maughan as he avoids it easily.
Potter shoots in for a double leg but Maughan sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Maughan lands a head shot.
Potter gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Maughan moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Potter on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Maughan lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Potter circles away quickly and effectively.
Maughan will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Potter fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Potter is trying to pull guard but Maughan turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Maughan lands a hook to the side of the head.
Potter tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Maughan smiles and moves away.
Maughan smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Maughan moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Potter misses the jab.
Maughan slaps away a takedown attempt from Potter, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Potter fails with a takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Maughan with a nice cross.
Maughan stalks Potter and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Potter's face. Potter staggers backwards, shaken.

Potter closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Maughan did well to prevent Potter getting side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Maughan is looking to control Potter's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Maughan avoid being mounted?
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Potter thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Maughan's head.

Potter is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Maughan doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Potter.

Wilson Maughan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Maughan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Potter. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Potter stalling away here and it's allowed Maughan to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Potter drops back, looking for a kneebar! Maughan looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Maughan looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Maughan!

Potter is looking to reverse the position.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Potter is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Maughan pulls his head out easily.

Maughan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Potter has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Maughan has managed to get both his arms back between Potter's legs - danger averted.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Potter is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Maughan is aware though and is defending well.

And that's the end of the fight!
