PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Martin Lundgren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roope Tarvainen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Martin Lundgren!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Roope Tarvainen!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Tarja Halkonen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lundgren tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Lundgren fails with the takedown

and Tarvainen counters with a nice double leg into side control. Lundgren won't be happy with that.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Tarvainen scoring with punches from side control.
Lundgren tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The referee asks Tarvainen politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Tarvainen prefers to stall for the moment though.
Lundgren is looking to regain half guard here but Tarvainen keeps moving and retains side control.
Tarvainen controls the position from side control.
Lundgren is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Lundgren is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Tarvainen pulls his head out easily.
Still in half guard, Tarvainen seems content to control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Lundgren is looking for a sweep. Tarvainen is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Tarvainen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Lundgren wants to get back to his feet.
Tarvainen is controlling the pace.

Lundgren is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Tarvainen pulls his head out easily.

Lundgren is trying to escape back to his feet but Tarvainen uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Check out the look on Tarvainen's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Tarvainen lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Tarvainen creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Tarvainen stands up.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Lundgren fails with an attempt to clinch.

Tarvainen clinches with his opponent.
Tarvainen tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Lundgren smiles and moves away.

Tarvainen feints and as Lundgren raises his hands in defense, Tarvainen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Lundgren had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Tarvainen defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tarvainen passes easily into side control. Nice work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lundgren takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Lundgren gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Lundgren is trying to stand back up but Tarvainen is controlling him
Lundgren tries to roll over but Tarvainen keeps him under control.
Nice strikes from Tarvainen there.

Tarvainen postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Lundgren to stand up.

and Tarvainen counters with a single leg into guard. Lundgren didn't expect that.
Tarvainen stands and throws Lundgren's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Tarvainen moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
It looks like Tarvainen might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Tarvainen stands up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tarvainen blocks a head kick by Lundgren.

Tarvainen scores a takedown into full mount!
The referee warns Lundgren that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Tarvainen takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Tarvainen prevents Lundgren from getting the reversal.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Tarvainen sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Lundgren is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roope Tarvainen dominated that round.

Tarvainen shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Lundgren manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Tarvainen is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tarvainen chips away with some ground and pound.
Tarvainen pushing down on Lundgren's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Lundgren looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Tarvainen is nestled in close to Lundgren, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Tarvainen works his foot free and advances to mount.

Lundgren is in a horrible position here. Tarvainen smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.


Lundgren is rocked!

Tarvainen swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
