PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jesus Gonzalez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eli Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gonzalez comes into the arena with Why Cant we Be Friends! blaring out of the sound system. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 34 - 16 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jesus Gonzalez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eli Williams!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gonzalez cracks Williams with a good jab.
Williams throws a poor cross that misses
and Gonzalez counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Gonzalez misses with a body shot.
Gonzalez lands an overhand right.
Gonzalez fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Williams checks it well.
Gonzalez throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Williams stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Gonzalez.

It looks like Eli Williams has been cut.
Gonzalez throws the left hand but Williams avoids the punch easily.
Gonzalez misses with an uppercut.
The fighters circling - Williams throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Gonzalez sizes up Williams with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Gonzalez changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

and Williams counters with a nice double leg into guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Gonzalez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Williams's guard.

Williams escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gonzalez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jesus Gonzalez wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Williams shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Gonzalez tries to roll over but Williams keeps him under control.

Williams slows the pace down in half guard.
Williams is nestled in close to Gonzalez, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Williams is keen to just control but Gonzalez is a slippery customer.

Williams decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Williams is stalling here. Gonzalez is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Williams seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Gonzalez has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gonzalez throws a hook but Williams blocks it.
Williams thows a body shot but no joy.

and Gonzalez counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Williams cracks Gonzalez with a big right hand but Gonzalez just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

I would just about give that final round to Eli Williams.
