PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Viktor Vasilyev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Putnel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vasilyev comes to the cage accompanied by War Song. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Putnel stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Putnel wants it to stay on the feet.
Putnel throws a head kick that Vasilyev semi-blocks.

It looks like Viktor Vasilyev has been cut.
Putnel misses with a head kick.
Putnel avoids a punch combination nicely.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Vasilyev has his takedown stuffed
and Putnel counters with a nice low kick that buckles Vasilyev's knee momentarily.

Putnel closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Vasilyev makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Vasilyev.
Putnel really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vasilyev. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vasilyev working for a triangle but Putnel defends it easily.
Putnel pushes down on Vasilyev's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Vasilyev keeping hold of Putnel's head, controlling as best he can.

Putnel is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Vasilyev is just riding it out for now. Putnel eventually gives up the hold.

Vasilyev is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Putnel scores with a couple of nice shots.
Vasilyev is trying to get back to full guard.
Vasilyev is looking to escape.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Putnel prevents Vasilyev from improving his position.
Putnel looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Vasilyev with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Putnel wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vasilyev keeps working.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Vasilyev is looking to control Putnel's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Vasilyev avoid being mounted?

Putnel decides to stand and escape the position.
Vasilyev fails with an attempt to clinch.
Vasilyev shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Viktor Vasilyev. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vasilyev is breathing heavily.

Putnel closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Vasilyev to the mat! Vasilyev manages to get full guard.
Vasilyev is trying to control the position but Putnel postures up.
Vasilyev will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Putnel tries to stand but Vasilyev is controlling from the bottom.

Vasilyev is working an open guard so Putnel takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

and Putnel counters with a takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Putnel wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vasilyev keeps working.

Vasilyev is refusing to be controlled, as Putnel sits in half guard.
Vasilyev is pressing down on Putnel's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brandon Putnel dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Viktor Vasilyev's cut.
That's time! Vasilyev's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

The fight stays on the outside here - Putnel looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Vasilyev gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Vasilyev is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Putnel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vasilyev swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Vasilyev is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Putnel has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Vasilyev is proving hard to escape from.

Putnel has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Vasilyev to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Putnel is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Vasilyev pulls down on the head and he's put Putnel to sleep! This one is all over!
