PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jc Bowen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luke Sanderrs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Luke Sanderrs told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jc Bowen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luke Sanderrs!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Gwen Towbar and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bowen shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sanderrs as he jumps to the side.
Bowen keeps the fight on the outside.

Bowen tries to keep at a distance but Sanderrs has taken the fight into the clinch.

Bowen manages to pull guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Bowen utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Bowen wants to sweep but no luck.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bowen is on top in guard.
Sanderrs wants to get back to his feet but Bowen passes into half guard.
Sanderrs controlling the position for now.
The fighters are battling for position here. Sanderrs manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bowen pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sanderrs is keeping the position for now.
Bowen wants to control from the top but Sanderrs keeps moving.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Bowen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sanderrs swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Sanderrs is controlling Bowen's posture.
Bowen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Bowen wants to clinch up but Sanderrs keeps it at a distance.

Bowen scores with a takedown into Sanderrs's guard.

Bowen stands up and waves to Sanderrs to follow him.
Sanderrs fails in his attempt to clinch.
Sanderrs tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Bowen swivels and escapes.

and Bowen counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bowen.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bowen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Bowen wants to control from the top but Sanderrs keeps moving.

Sanderrs looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Sanderrs looks gassed!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Bowen with a flurry of punches that miss.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Bowen throws a big right hand that misses.
Bowen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Sanderrs preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bowen tries to free his leg and advance position but Sanderrs is retaining full guard.
Bowen is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Bowen wants to control from the top but Sanderrs keeps moving.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Jc Bowen wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Sanderrs circles away from the clinch attempt.
Bowen shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Nice takedown defense from Sanderrs. No joy for Bowen on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jc Bowen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sanderrs tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in the close the distance. Bowen manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Bowen closes the distance and clinches.

Bowen drags the fight down to the ground.
Sanderrs postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bowen closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes.

Bowen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bowen shoots in for a takedown but Sanderrs shows good takedown defense.

Sanderrs tries for a takedown but Bowen sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Bowen really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Bowen takes the fight into the clinch.
Bowen jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sanderrs walks away with a smile on his face. Bowen gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jc Bowen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fight stays on the outside here - Sanderrs looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Sanderrs dives in and grabs Bowen's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bowen pushes down on Sanderrs's head and hops out.

Bowen fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Sanderrs, pushing him back against the ropes.
Bowen is trying to pull guard but Sanderrs turns him against the ropes and we stay in the clinch.
Sanderrs has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Bowen after a bit of a struggle.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Sanderrs.

Bowen's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Bowen tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sanderrs swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Sanderrs lands the left hand.
Sanderrs fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Nice sprawl there from Sanderrs as Bowen shoots in.
Jc Bowen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sanderrs avoids the head kick by Bowen.
Bowen avoids a punch combination nicely.
Sanderrs is breathing heavily.
Sanderrs takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Luke Sanderrs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bowen lands a nice looking body shot.

Bowen closes the distance and clinches.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Bowen drops down looking for an ankle pick but Sanderrs pulls his leg out and moves away.
Sanderrs tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Bowen counters with a single leg into guard. Sanderrs didn't expect that.

Sanderrs is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bowen is aware though and is defending well.

Sanderrs is staying active underneath Bowen, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Bowen is looking to take a break and control but Sanderrs is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Bowen perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Jc Bowen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jc Bowen wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Sanderrs closes this distance looking for a takedown but Bowen circles away.

Bowen decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
It looks like Bowen is going to stand back up.
Bowen is keen to just control but Sanderrs is a slippery customer.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sanderrs on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Sanderrs has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Bowen is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Sanderrs.
Sanderrs has one of Bowen's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
Sanderrs takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Bowen is working Sanderrs over with some ground and pound from side control.

Bowen is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Sanderrs knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Sanderrs postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jc Bowen showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bowen, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
