PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Cannon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonny Hunt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hunt has chosen Ace of Spades by Motorhead as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 16 - 1, fighting out of London, Matthew Cannon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Jonny Hunt!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Chris Edwards and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hunt scores with a nice head shot.


It looks like Matthew Cannon has been cut.
Cannon keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Cannon shoots in but Hunt avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Cannon moves out of range of the strikes.
Cannon shoots for a takedown but Hunt saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Hunt misses with an uppercut
and Cannon counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Hunt wants to clinch up but Cannon keeps it at a distance.

Cannon closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
This has been an exciting period of action!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Cannon tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Cannon with the ground and pound but Hunt regains half guard under the barage of strikes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Cannon works his foot free and advances to mount.
Cannon tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Cannon trying to control but Hunt is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cannon avoids the attempt from Hunt to control.
Hunt manages to regain half guard whilst avoiding the strikes.
Cannon passes the guard and advances to mount!
Cannon wants to control the pace but Hunt is squirming around nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hunt is in all sorts of trouble here.
Cannon in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

Cannon can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hunt is looking to escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hunt tries to hold on but Cannon postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cannon lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cannon trying to control but Hunt is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Hunt misses with the combination.
Cannon slips a jab from Hunt.
Hunt defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Cannon.
Cannon throws a hook but Hunt avoids it easily.
Hunt throws a shot from downtown. Cannon moves away and avoids it.
Hunt misses with a head kick.
Nice body punch from Cannon.
Hunt tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cannon swats him away and circles back towards the center.

enabling Hunt to counter with a crisp jab.
Cannon throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Jonny Hunt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cannon loads up on a big right hand but Hunt slips the punch.
Hunt lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Cannon lands the left hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hunt misses with a looping right.
Cannon throws a right hand that Hunt ducks under and follows up with a left that Hunt also avoids with ease.
Hunt falls off balance throwing a combination
and Cannon counters with a straight right hand.
Hunt works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Hunt misses with a straight right.
Hunt takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Nice defenses there by Cannon.
Cannon takes a kick to the side of the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Cannon misses with an uppercut
and Hunt counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Cannon checks a low kick from Hunt.
Hunt connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Hunt thuds his shin into the meat of Cannon's side.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cannon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hunt tries to avoid it but Cannon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hunt to the ground. Hunt escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hunt paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.


Cannon is rocked!
Hunt fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hunt walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Cannon drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Hunt swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Cannon's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jonny Hunt!
Jonny Hunt very nearly forgot to thank Crippler's Corner amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
