The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shepherd shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
James blocks a head kick by Shepherd.

James closes the distance and clinches.

James manages to pull guard.
Shepherd trying to control but James is working from the bottom.

James uses the cage to get back to his feet.
James defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Shepherd.
Shepherd throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
A decent looking cross lands there for James.

James shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Shepherd's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Shepherd tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
