PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Suko Imoro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Greg Macgowan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Macgowan has chosen Nyan Cat as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Macgowan has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Greg Macgowan enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Suko Imoro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Greg Macgowan!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Bruno Lombardi and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Macgowan scores with a takedown into Imoro's guard.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Imoro is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Macgowan gets to his feet - Imoro follows without any prompting.
Imoro fails with a takedown attempt.
Imoro shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Macgowan defends it nicely.
Greg Macgowan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Imoro closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Imoro is trying to ground and pound but Macgowan uses the momentary lack of control by Imoro to regain half guard.

Imoro knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Macgowan on the ground.

Macgowan wants to control but Imoro is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Imoro is keen to just control but Macgowan is a slippery customer.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Suko Imoro.
Horrible takedown by Imoro or perhaps it was just good defense by Macgowan which made him look bad.

Imoro tries to close the distance and clinch up but Macgowan swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Imoro lands a nice hook to Macgowan's body. Macgowan takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Macgowan is trying to push Imoro away but Imoro has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Imoro breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Imoro gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Macgowan is pressed up against the cage. Imoro has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Macgowan down to the mat. Macgowan avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Imoro shoots in looking for a takedown. Macgowan tries to sprawl out of it but Imoro keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Macgowan manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Macgowan lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Imoro circles away quickly and effectively.
Imoro shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Macgowan as he jumps to the side.

and Imoro counters by moving into the clinch.
Imoro is stalling here.
Imoro tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Macgowan smiles and moves away.
Imoro fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Imoro will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Macgowan stuffs the takedown.
Macgowan swings for the body but Imoro moves out of range.
Imoro throws a head kick but Macgowan moves out of range.
Imoro has a takedown stuffed.
Imoro tries to score a power double leg takedown but Macgowan sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Imoro somewhat.
Imoro's corner calls for a 1-2. Imoro obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Imoro is looking to clinch.
Macgowan tries a head kick but it misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Imoro wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Imoro will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Macgowan up against the cage.
Macgowan changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Imoro fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Macgowan throws a right and a left that Imoro avoids nicely.

Macgowan's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Macgowan is squirming around, avoiding Imoro's attempts to control the action.

Imoro lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Suko Imoro.
Well Imoro has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
