PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ac Slater (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doug Graves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Graves has chosen Alvarez as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ac Slater!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Doug Graves!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Ryoma Takatsuka and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slater misses with a head kick.
Graves misses with a takedown attempt - Slater sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Ac Slater seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Slater throws a hook to the side of Graves's head but Graves sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Graves misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Slater throws a right and a left that both miss.
Graves takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Graves changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Slater tries to avoid it but Graves manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Slater to the ground. Slater escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ac Slater has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Doug Graves.
Graves shoots in but no luck this time.
Slater lands a body shot.
Slater lands with a right hand.
Graves slips under a jab.
Slater takes a swing at Graves's ribcage but misses.
Graves shoots in but Slater avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Slater lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Graves checks a leg kick.
Graves shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Slater as he avoids it easily.
Slater looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Graves takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Slater misses with a straight left.
Graves gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

so Slater counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slater working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Slater throws a big right hand that misses.
Graves avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Graves keeping moving, preventing Slater from controlling successfully.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Slater wants to control from the top but Graves keeps moving.
Graves utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Slater slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Graves tries for a takedown but Slater sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Slater throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Graves stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Slater connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Slater tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Graves is able to avoid easily.

Graves looks for a takedown but Slater sprawls well.
Slater connects with a body shot that sends Graves's belly button to the back.
Graves moves away from the strike by Slater.
Slater lands a nice shot to the body.

Graves decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Slater might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Slater is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Slater is not content to let Graves control the position.

Doug Graves has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Graves shoots in and bounces Slater off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Slater wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ac Slater dominated that round.
That's time! Slater's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Graves moves away from the strike by Slater.
Nice takedown defense from Slater. No joy for Graves on that attempt.
Graves on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Graves closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Graves shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Slater as he avoids it easily.
Graves moves out of range of the body kick.
Slater paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Slater misses with an uppercut. Graves saw that one coming.
Graves looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Slater is fending him off so far but Graves persists. Nope, Slater circles away and we're back to standing.
Ac Slater has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Doug Graves.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Slater, right into the meat.
Graves blocks a leg kick.
Slater lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Slater.
Slater looks to land a combination but Graves avoids it well.
Slater throws a solid leg kick but Graves takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Slater.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Slater throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Slater bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Graves's head.
Slater stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Slater moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Slater scores with a nice strike.
Slater stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Slater wants it to stay on the feet.
Slater comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Graves shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Slater counters with a right hand to the body.
Graves shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Slater pinned against the cage. Slater gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Graves is breathing heavily.
Slater leaves Graves with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
A jab from Slater finds it's way through Graves's defenses.

Graves stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Slater.
Graves throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Slater's waist but Slater gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Graves off to one side.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Graves shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Slater as he jumps to the side.
Slater throws a head kick that looked like it stung.


It looks like Doug Graves has been cut.
Donk. Slater catches Graves right on the button with a cross.
Slater shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Graves sprawls well. Graves wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Slater gets slowly back to his feet.
Graves takes one to the chin there.
Graves shoots in but Slater avoids the takedown attempt easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Graves closes the distance and clinches up with Slater, looking for a takedown. Graves pushes Slater against the cage but Slater circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Slater lands the left hand.
Graves takes a jab right on the kisser.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Graves.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Graves.
Slater lands a two punch combo.
Graves takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
A lazy left from Slater finds it's target.
Slater listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Slater throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Slater bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Graves's head backwards.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Slater throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Slater misses the shot to the body.
Slater keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
A combination from Slater does no damage.
Graves closes the distance and clinches up with Slater, looking for a takedown. Graves pushes Slater against the cage but Slater circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Graves fails with the takedown.
Slater misses with a body kick.
Slater clobbers Graves with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Slater stalks Graves and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Graves's face. Graves staggers backwards, shaken.
Graves takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Graves shoots in looking for a takedown. Slater tries to sprawl out of it but Graves keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Slater manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Graves has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
Graves keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ac Slater dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Doug Graves's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Slater pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Graves walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Slater shoots in for a takedown but Graves shows good takedown defense.
Slater throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Graves.
Slater stuffs the takedown.
Graves shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Slater as he jumps to the side.
Slater shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Slater throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Slater lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Graves circles away quickly and effectively.
Graves fails with a takedown attempt.
Ac Slater has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Doug Graves.
Graves takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Graves takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Slater is looking to land body kicks.
Graves shoots in but Slater avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Slater throws a head kick that misses.
Slater throws a right hand that Graves ducks under and follows up with a left that Graves also avoids with ease.

Graves doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Slater is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Graves can do to turn this around?

Graves wanted to stand there but Slater had control of the position.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Doug Graves wasn't active enough on the ground.
Slater will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Ac Slater is winning the standup battle so far.
Graves moves out of range of the body kick.
Slater lets loose with a powerful body kick. Graves will feel that in the morning.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Graves crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Slater - the referee stops the clock and Graves gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Slater. Graves manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Graves doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Slater counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Graves is lucky that one didn't land flush.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Horrible takedown by Graves or perhaps it was just good defense by Slater which made him look bad.
A left lands for Slater.
Slater throws a head kick that Graves semi-blocks.
Slater misses with a low kick.
Graves has his takedown stuffed
and Slater counters with a two punch combo.


Graves is rocked!
Good leg kick by Slater there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Graves is still on wobbly legs! Can Slater finish him?
Graves stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Slater.
Slater fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Graves looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Slater comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Graves seems to have recovered his senses.
Good work by Graves as he checks the leg kick.
Slater takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Graves shoots in looking for a takedown but Slater manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Graves's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Slater lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Graves falls backwards - clearly groggy! Slater dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ac Slater!
Ac Slater retains his super heavyweight title!
Ac Slater seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
