PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Edinson Caccau (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hector Atkinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Caccau might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to DJ Khaled - All I do is win. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Edinson Caccau!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Hector Atkinson!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, William Gold and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Caccau rushes Atkinson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Atkinson is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Atkinson jumps guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Caccau throws a big right hand that misses.
Atkinson keeping moving, preventing Caccau from controlling successfully.
Atkinson seems keen to control Caccau's posture.
Atkinson trying to keep a closed guard but Caccau is proving a slippery customer.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Hector Atkinson.
Caccau misses with a head kick.
Atkinson swings for the body but Caccau moves out of range.
Caccau moves out of range as Atkinson throws a body kick.

Atkinson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Atkinson swats away the attempt to clinch by Caccau.
Atkinson avoids the head kick by Caccau.
Atkinson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Atkinson wants it to stay on the feet.

Atkinson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Atkinson takes a knee right on the jaw!
Caccau has Atkinson pressed against the cage.
Atkinson tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Caccau just stands there and leans against the cage.

Atkinson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Caccau steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Atkinson.

Atkinson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Atkinson misses with a body shot.
Caccau tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Atkinson paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A swing and a miss from Atkinson.
Caccau delivers a nice body kick.
Atkinson moves in looking to clinch but Caccau pushes him off.

Caccau drives through and clinches with Atkinson against the cage.
Atkinson is trying to pull guard but Caccau has him pressed against the cage.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Caccau takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Caccau's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Atkinson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Caccau swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Caccau thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Atkinson if he has to take too many more of those.

and Atkinson counters with a nice body shot.

and Caccau counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Caccau.
Caccau's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Caccau breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Caccau doesn't manage to clinch there - Atkinson circles away.
Atkinson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Caccau.
Caccau is looking to clinch.
Atkinson misses with a shot to the body
and Caccau counters with a slapping leg kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Atkinson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Caccau to the mat! Caccau manages to get full guard.
Caccau looking to hit a scissor sweep but Atkinson is one step ahead there.

Atkinson with a flurry of punches that miss.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Caccau wants to stand and escape but Atkinson is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Edinson Caccau will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Atkinson tries to close the distance and clinch but Caccau swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Atkinson moves into the clinch successfully.

Caccau's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Caccau wants to clinch.

and Atkinson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Atkinson.
Atkinson forces his way into half guard.

Atkinson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Atkinson seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Atkinson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Caccau is just riding it out for now. Atkinson eventually gives up the hold.

Atkinson seems to be working for a kimura but Caccau defends the submission attempt.
Caccau is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Caccau tries to kick Atkinson off but Atkinson keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Caccau wants to control but Atkinson is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Caccau tries to get to full guard but Atkinson has control of the leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Atkinson is trying to control the action in half guard but Caccau is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Caccau tries to kick Atkinson off but Atkinson keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Hector Atkinson has got the better of the ground game so far.

Atkinson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Caccau moves out of range of the leg kick from Atkinson.

Atkinson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Atkinson closes the distance and clinches up with Caccau, looking for a takedown. Atkinson pushes Caccau against the cage but Caccau circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Atkinson looks to land a combination but Caccau avoids it well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Atkinson tries to pull guard but Caccau won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hector Atkinson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Caccau pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Atkinson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Caccau paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Atkinson is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Caccau rather than just go for the knockout.

Atkinson fails with an attempt to clinch.

Atkinson looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Caccau!
Caccau is wriggling around trying to escape.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Atkinson manages to capitalize on a mistake by Caccau to take his back!

Atkinson has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Caccau! Can he survive? No! He's out! Atkinson gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
