The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Farrelly throws a jab but it's blocked by Sonnen.

Sonnen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Farrelly looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Let's hope that Sonnen has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sonnen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Farrelly. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sonnen loads up with a big shot that hurts Farrelly! He's pulled Sonnen in close but Sonnen has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Farrelly survive? More strikes from Sonnen and Farrelly is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!

Chael Sonnen decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
