Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Astrud Rivera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brett Johnson!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rivera looks to land a combination but Johnson avoids it well.
Rivera slaps away a takedown attempt from Johnson, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Rivera leaves Johnson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by Johnson or perhaps it was just good defense by Rivera which made him look bad.
Astrud Rivera has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brett Johnson.
Johnson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Johnson stuffs the takedown.
Johnson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rivera swivels and escapes.
Johnson leaves Rivera with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Johnson looks for a takedown but Rivera sprawls well.
Rivera shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Johnson defends it nicely.

Rivera throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Rivera has closed the distance and engaged Johnson in a clinch.

Rivera has clasped his hands together around Johnson's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Rivera is looking to take a break and control but Johnson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Johnson sneaks back into half guard.
Johnson tries to get to full guard but Rivera has control of the leg.
Rivera wants to control but Johnson is keeping him busy.

Johnson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rivera pulls his head out easily.

Johnson wants to improve his position but Rivera is controlling well.
Rivera tries to stand but can't do so whilst Johnson controls his leg.

Johnson looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Johnson wants to get back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Rivera slows the pace down in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rivera seems to be working for a kimura but Johnson defends the submission attempt.
Johnson is looking for a sweep. Rivera is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rivera wants to pass the guard but Johnson is defending well.
Johnson slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Rivera wants to stand but Johnson has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Rivera won't allow Johnson to sweep him here.
Johnson wants to improve his position but instead Rivera has moved into half guard.
Johnson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Rivera is trying to control the action in half guard but Johnson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Johnson tries to get to full guard but Rivera has control of the leg.
Rivera works his way into full mount!
Rivera looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Johnson is looking to get to half guard.
Rivera tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Johnson is squirming around, avoiding Rivera's attempts to control the action.
Rivera knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Johnson on the ground.
Johnson is looking to improve his position but Rivera isn't that keen on the idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Astrud Rivera dominated that round.
That's time! Rivera's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Johnson shoots in for a double leg but Rivera sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Johnson fails with the takedown.

Johnson scores a takedown into full mount!
Rivera can't escape the position.

Johnson working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Rivera turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Johnson off and cradles Rivera's limp body as Johnson celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Brett Johnson!
