PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Grand Speed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nikolai Kukuev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Speed comes to the cage accompanied by Mad Sin / Rusty Nails. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Nikolai Kukuev was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Grand Speed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nikolai Kukuev!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Valeri Chadov and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Speed scores with a jab. Kukuev acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Kukuev shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Speed pinned against the cage. Speed gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kukuev will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kukuev changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Speed tries to avoid it but Kukuev manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Speed to the ground. Speed escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Speed leaves Kukuev with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Speed connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Kukuev ducks under a wild hook from Speed.
Speed stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Speed wants it to stay on the feet.
Speed fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Kukuev has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Grand Speed seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Speed throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Kukuev shoots for a takedown but Speed saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Speed throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Speed connects with the punch.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kukuev throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Speed's waist but Speed gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kukuev off to one side.
Speed throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Speed throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Speed loads up on a big right hand but Kukuev slips the punch.
Kukuev shoots in looking for a takedown. Speed tries to sprawl out of it but Kukuev keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Speed manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Kukuev is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Speed doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kukuev.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Kukuev drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Speed manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kukuev has Speed in his guard.
