PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hiroko Mayamoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Sully (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jake Sully will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hiroko Mayamoto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jake Sully!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Hirohito Nitta and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mayamoto is looking to clinch but Sully is avoiding it.
Mayamoto tries to close the distance and clinch but Sully swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Sully misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Sully tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mayamoto sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sully somewhat.
Sully misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Mayamoto.
Sully circles away from the clinch attempt.
Mayamoto doesn't manage to clinch there - Sully circles away.

Sully closes the distance and clinches up with Mayamoto, looking for a takedown. Sully pushes Mayamoto against the cage but Mayamoto circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hiroko Mayamoto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Sully.
Mayamoto shoots in for a takedown but Sully shows good takedown defense.
Mayamoto changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sully tries to avoid it but Mayamoto manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sully to the ground. Sully escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sully scores with a jab to the jaw.

Mayamoto instigates a clinch.
Mayamoto misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Sully.
Mayamoto trying to control the position but instead, Sully has worked for underhooks and has pushed Mayamoto into the cage.

Sully tries a knee to the head but Mayamoto blocks it.
Mayamoto could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Sully tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Mayamoto just stands there and leans against the cage.

Sully wants to get back to striking at distance but Mayamoto won't allow it.

Mayamoto manages to break the clinch.
Mayamoto stuffs the takedown attempt from Sully. Sully gets slowly back to his feet.
Sully slaps away a takedown attempt from Mayamoto, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Sully shoots in looking for a takedown but Mayamoto manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sully's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mayamoto fails in his attempt to clinch.
Sully fails with the takedown.
Sully displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mayamoto.

Mayamoto fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Sully, pushing him back against the cage.
Mayamoto tries to pull guard but Sully forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Sully tries to pull guard but Mayamoto won't allow it.
A short left from Mayamoto.
Sully wants to get back to striking at distance but Mayamoto won't allow it.
Mayamoto gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Sully jumps into guard, dragging Mayamoto to the mat.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Sully is looking to stand up but Mayamoto isn't so interested in that idea.
Sully really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mayamoto. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mayamoto stands up and waves to Sully to follow him.
Sully shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mayamoto ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sully moves away.
Sully fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Sully clinches.
Sully fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Sully manages to pull guard.
Mayamoto throws a big elbow that misses.
Mayamoto is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sully keeping moving, preventing Mayamoto from controlling successfully.
Mayamoto might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

We're going to have a standup here because Hiroko Mayamoto wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Sully fails with a takedown attempt.
A combination from Sully does no damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sully fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mayamoto will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Sully shoots in but no luck this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Hiroko Mayamoto will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Sully tries for a takedown but Mayamoto sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Mayamoto tries to clinch but Sully moves out of range.
Sully circles away from the clinch attempt.

Sully has Mayamoto up against the cage in a clinch.
Mayamoto is trying to break the clinch but Sully has him pressed against the cage.
Mayamoto tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Sully's elbow.
Mayamoto is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Sully is defending well for now.
Sully tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Mayamoto just stands there and leans against the cage.

Mayamoto breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Mayamoto closes the distance and clinches.
Sully prevents a body shot from Mayamoto.
Sully is struggling to control the position.

Sully has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mayamoto uses from the top position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sully is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Sully looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Mayamoto passes into half guard.
Mayamoto wants to control but Sully is keeping him busy.
Sully trying to control but Mayamoto postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sully tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Mayamoto has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Mayamoto wants to control the pace but Sully is squirming around nicely.
Sully has given up his back here.

Mayamoto has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Sully has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Sully trying to control the action but Mayamoto just sinks the hooks in.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sully is trying to get back to his feet but Mayamoto has full control of the position and if anything, Sully has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Mayamoto has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

Sully rolls, trying to escape but Mayamoto keeps control of the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hiroko Mayamoto dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Sully moves into the clinch.
Sully stalls.

Mayamoto breaks the clinch.
Sully throws a body kick that misses.
Sully fails to land the takedown.
Sully throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mayamoto's waist but Mayamoto gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sully off to one side.
Sully misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Hiroko Mayamoto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Sully.
Mayamoto tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sully swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Mayamoto works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Sully misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Mayamoto just misses with a punch to the body.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Mayamoto here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

A looping hook to the body misses from Mayamoto. Sully does a little dance to reset his feet.

Mayamoto has taken the fight to the clinch.
Sully on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Mayamoto misses with a punch on the inside.

Mayamoto breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Sully shoots in and drives through. Mayamoto sprawls well.

Mayamoto moves into the clinch successfully.
Sully avoids the elbow strike from Mayamoto, against the cage.
Mayamoto has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sully is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Mayamoto prevents the takedown attempt.
Sully misses with a hook to the ribs.

Mayamoto breaks from the clinch.

Sully is looking to land body kicks.
The fight stays on the outside here - Sully looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Sully rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mayamoto moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Hiroko Mayamoto seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sully fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mayamoto avoids it really well and circles away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sully chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Mayamoto can pounce on him.
Sully lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Hiroko Mayamoto is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sully takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Sully tries to clinch but Mayamoto is having none of it.
Mayamoto tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sully sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mayamoto somewhat.
Sully tries to bum rush Mayamoto with a series of wild strikes but Mayamoto uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Horrible takedown by Mayamoto or perhaps it was just good defense by Sully which made him look bad.

Mayamoto pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sully shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mayamoto defends it nicely.
Hiroko Mayamoto is winning the standup battle so far.
Mayamoto tries to clinch up.
Sully lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mayamoto circles away quickly and effectively.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Nice sprawl there from Sully as Mayamoto shoots in.
Sully takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

and Sully counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Sully tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mayamoto swivels and escapes.
Jake Sully has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hiroko Mayamoto is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Sully shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mayamoto pinned against the cage. Mayamoto gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Hiroko Mayamoto.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mayamoto, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
