PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jack TheWack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gab Rat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gab Rat will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jack TheWack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gab Rat!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Alec Ball and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

TheWack closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Rat quickly recovers to half guard.
Rat wants to improve his position but TheWack is controlling well.
TheWack wants to take a breather but Rat is having none of it.
Rat tries to get to full guard but TheWack has control of the leg.
TheWack content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
TheWack wants to pass the guard but Rat is defending well.

TheWack moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Rat.

TheWack decides to stand up, so the ref orders Rat to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Rat gets caught napping as TheWack dives in and scores a takedown. Rat manages to retain guard.
Rat keeping full guard, as TheWack tries to pass.
TheWack stays in close to Rat's body and controls the position.
TheWack works a leg free and moves into half guard.
TheWack tries to pass to full mount but Rat defends it.
Rat moves into full guard.

Rat uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Rat scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
TheWack misses the shot to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
TheWack misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Rat tries to score a power double leg takedown but TheWack sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rat somewhat.
TheWack shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rat as he jumps to the side.
TheWack is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Rat clinches up against the cage.

Rat breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Rat moves into range and clinches up with TheWack.
Rat jumps guard but TheWack stands there with Rat around his waist. Rat gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Rat tries for a takedown. No joy.
Jack TheWack has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gab Rat.
Rat prevents a body shot from TheWack.

Rat manages to break the clinch.
Rat tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. TheWack manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Rat fails with a takedown attempt.
TheWack throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
TheWack dodges the punch combination from Rat.
TheWack shoots for a takedown but Rat saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

TheWack looking to score a takedown here. Rat is defending well but TheWack drives through and ends up in Rat's guard.
Rat avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

TheWack decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Rat throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Rat keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack TheWack dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Rat tries to clinch but TheWack is having none of it.

TheWack closes the distance and pushes Rat back into the cage.
Rat tries to pull guard but TheWack holds him up against the cage and eventually Rat drops back down to his feet.
Stalling in the clinch from TheWack.
Rat looking to stall.
TheWack is trying to pull guard but Rat turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Rat has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. TheWack is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
TheWack takes an elbow to the temple.

Rat escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Rat misses with a jab, cross combination.
TheWack throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Rat counters with a body kick that stops TheWack in his tracks momentarily.

TheWack closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
TheWack is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Rat is defending well.

TheWack is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Rat can't fight it off and eventually TheWack manages to take the fight to the floor. Rat looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

TheWack drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rat manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now TheWack has Rat in his guard.

TheWack wants to stand up but Rat is controlling him.
TheWack keeping moving, preventing Rat from controlling successfully.
Rat postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
TheWack is really struggling to control Rat but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Rat trying to control the position from guard on top but TheWack is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Gab Rat was stalling too much, according to the referee.

TheWack rushes Rat and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

TheWack tries to pull guard but Rat forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack TheWack. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rat effectively controlling the action here.
TheWack takes a shot to the head.
TheWack gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Rat.
Rat wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
TheWack prevents Rat from breaking the clinch.
TheWack's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Rat fails to pull the fight into his guard.

TheWack pulls Rat into guard.
Rat is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Rat must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Rat is looking to advance position but TheWack has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jack TheWack will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


TheWack throws a sloppy head kick and Rat moves out of range easily.

TheWack rushes Rat and presses him up against the cage.
TheWack taking a breather.
A frustrated look appears on TheWack's face as he tries to break the clinch.
TheWack keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Rat's efforts to push away.
TheWack tries to pull guard but Rat won't allow it.

Rat ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Rat no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Rat is looking to stand up but TheWack isn't so interested in that idea.
TheWack wants to control from the top but Rat keeps moving.
Rat is trying to control the position but TheWack postures up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Rat takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Rat tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A looping hook to the body misses from TheWack. Rat does a little dance to reset his feet.
Rat tries for a takedown but TheWack sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Rat takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Rat fails in his attempt to clinch.

TheWack avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

TheWack shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Rat trying to hold on to TheWack's head to control him but TheWack postures up.
TheWack missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
TheWack is nestled in close to Rat, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

TheWack seems to be looking for submissions.
Rat on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Rat is defending against the submission attempts here by TheWack.
TheWack passes into side control, despite Rat's attempt to control the position.
Rat really doesn't want to stay on the ground with TheWack. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

TheWack stands up.
Rat fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

TheWack shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rat manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

TheWack sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rat's guard.
Gab Rat has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jack TheWack is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rat is staying active underneath TheWack, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for TheWack, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
