PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Highty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucius Vorenus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Highty comes to the cage accompanied by Lonesome traveler. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Highty closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Vorenus quickly recovers to half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Highty lands strikes from half guard.
Vorenus preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Highty throwing shots but Vorenus is blocking nicely.
Vorenus is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Vorenus moves into full guard.
Vorenus pulls Highty in to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Let's hope that Vorenus has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Highty wants to control from the top but Vorenus keeps moving.
Vorenus has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Highty takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Highty is breathing heavily.
Highty shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Vorenus as he jumps to the side.
Vorenus throws a shot to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nice uppercut lands for Vorenus. That snapped Highty's head back.

It looks like Mike Highty has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Vorenus drives through and clinches with Highty against the cage.
Vorenus lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Vorenus scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Vorenus lands an uppercut.
Vorenus manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Vorenus lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Highty.

Vorenus is trying to break free.
Highty is trying to pull guard but Vorenus has him pressed against the cage.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Vorenus lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Highty goes for a takedown in the clinch but Vorenus prevents it.

Highty pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Vorenus lands a left hand that snaps the head of Highty backwards.

Highty wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Highty misses with a knee to the head.
Highty tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Vorenus just stands there and leans against the cage.
Vorenus will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Highty up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Highty on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

Oooooh!!! Vorenus has knocked Highty down with a huge combo! Vorenus steps away and waves a wobbly Highty back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Vorenus walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Highty drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Vorenus swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Highty's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!
