PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matthieu Renaud (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Sapp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Renaud comes to the cage accompanied by Bite Marks/ Screeching Weasel. Bob Sapp told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Hirohito Nitta.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Renaud. Sapp shrugs it off though.
Renaud fails to land with a series of punches.
Renaud throws a head kick that misses.

Sapp shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Sapp missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Renaud regains full guard. Nicely done.

Sapp throws a strike but Renaud rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Renaud would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Matthieu Renaud has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Renaud throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Sapp's head.

It looks like Bob Sapp has been cut.
A swing and a miss from Sapp.
Renaud throws a head kick but Sapp moves out of range.

Sapp closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Renaud did well to prevent Sapp getting side control.

This has been an exciting period of action!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Renaud manages to get to full guard.
Sapp keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Renaud's head.
Renaud is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Renaud keeping moving, preventing Sapp from controlling successfully.
Renaud is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Renaud is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Sapp is not content to let Renaud control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Matthieu Renaud will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Sapp avoids a punch combination nicely.
Renaud throws the left hand but Sapp avoids the punch easily.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Sapp looks for a takedown but Renaud sprawls well.
Renaud lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Renaud fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Renaud looks to land a combination. Sapp sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
No luck for Sapp with that takedown attempt.
Sapp closes this distance looking for a takedown but Renaud circles away.
Matthieu Renaud has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bob Sapp.
Renaud throws a sloppy head kick and Sapp moves out of range easily.
Renaud circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Sapp drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Renaud follows Sapp to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!
