Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Bowers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and BJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tommy Bowers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, BJ Penn!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Seu Braga and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bowers takes the fight into the clinch.
Bowers is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Penn is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Bowers can't fight it off and eventually Penn manages to take the fight to the floor. Bowers looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Bowers really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Penn drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Penn jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Bowers has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Penn is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Bowers.

Bowers is looking to regain half guard here but Penn keeps moving and retains side control.

Penn tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Penn has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Penn wants to control but Bowers is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Penn prevents Bowers from escaping the position.
You can see the frustration on Bowers's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Bowers is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Penn tries for a kimura but Bowers is defending well.

Penn decides to stand back up. Penn steps back and let's Bowers get back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Penn shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Bowers wants to get back to his feet.

Penn thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bowers's head.
Penn wants to pass to mount but Bowers is defending the position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bowers is breathing heavily.
Bowers looks like he's trying to stand up.

Penn is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Penn is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Penn is pressing down on Bowers's thigh, looking to free his foot. Bowers is holding on for now.

Bowers looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Penn pushes past his half guard into mount!
Bowers tries to lock up and control but Penn gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Bowers really wants to buck Penn off and get back to his feet.
Penn cracks Bowers with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Bowers is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Penn is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Bowers is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Bowers flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Penn anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Bowers and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Penn slips an arm under Bowers chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Penn has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Penn is squeezing on Bowers like an anaconda would it's prey. Bowers fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). BJ Penn!
After winning the bout, BJ Penn thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
