The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bannion tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Poynter shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Poynter could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Poynter has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bannion can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Poynter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Poynter had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Bannion is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Poynter Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Bannion's back instead.

Poynter is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Bannion defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Bannion rolls, trying to escape but Poynter keeps control of the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bannion must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bannion is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Poynter gets his way!
