PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Barclay Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sue Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes into the arena with Bad Long Time by Hawkeye blaring out of the sound system. Carter has chosen Folsom Prison Blues as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Barclay Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sue Carter!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Arvi Lind and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones lands a head kick. Carter smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Jones misses with a body shot.
Carter fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Jones manages to avoid it.
Carter has a takedown stuffed.
The fighters circle momentarily. Jones darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Carter throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Carter shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jones defends it nicely.
Carter defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jones.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jones works the jab nicely.
No joy there for Carter, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Carter fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Jones is out of range.
Jones scores with the left hand. Carter knows he should have avoided that one.
Carter lands with a nice combination. Jones backs away looking to recover.


It looks like Barclay Jones has been cut.
Carter takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Jones lands a jab to the head.
Jones fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Jones tries a head kick but it misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Jones instigates a clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Carter.
Jones misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Jones tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Carter avoids it.
Jones blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Carter misses with a hook from the clinch.
Carter on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Good body shot from Carter.
Carter tries to score a body lock takedown but Jones shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Barclay Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sue Carter.
Jones works on Carter's body with a couple of short punches.
Carter blocks an uppercut.
Jones wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Carter has him pressed against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jones tries to throw a body punch but Carter avoids it by throwing Jones back against the cage.
Jones digs a right hand into Carter's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Carter's gas tank.
Carter looks gassed!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Carter has Jones pressed against the cage, preventing Jones from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Jones lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Carter blocks a body shot from Jones.
Carter blocks an uppercut.
Jones working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Carter is looking to control Jones's arms but Jones gets an underhook and turns him. Now Carter has his back to the cage.
Carter has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Jones is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Jones misses with a hook to the ribs.
Jones is working Carter over against the cage.
Carter dodges an elbow strike from Jones.
Jones gets through Carter's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Jones stalling.

Jones is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Jones is trying to push Carter away but Carter has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Jones throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Carters head.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Jones misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Carter.
Carter avoiding damage as Jones throws knees to the body.
Carter avoids the elbow strike from Jones, against the cage.
Jones tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Carter fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Carter tries to stall but Jones uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Jones.

A quick uppercut on the inside from Carter.
Jones can't find room to land a body shot as Carter controls the action.
Carter manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jones has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Jones controlling the action here for a moment.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Jones for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Jones pushes Carter back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Barclay Jones's cut.
That's time! Jones's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Carter circles away from the clinch attempt.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Jones breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jones will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Jones clinches up against the cage.
Jones swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Carter content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Carter blocks an uppercut.
Jones stalling in the clinch.
Jones is trying to break the clinch but Carter has him pressed against the cage.
Jones with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Jones throws an elbow but it misses.
Jones throws a head punch that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones tries a body shot but Carter blocks it.
Carter tries to work over Jones's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Carter blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Jones will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Carter up against the cage.

Jones misses with a body punch.
Jones is trying to break the clinch but Carter has him pressed against the cage.

Carter breaks the clinch.
Carter is looking to score with low kicks.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Carter bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Carter wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jones keeps working.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Carter working away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Carter wants to control but Jones is keeping him busy.
Jones wants to control but Carter postures up.
Jones sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Carter thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Jones's head.
Jones is staying active underneath Carter, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Jones moves into full guard.
Jones looking to control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carter connects with a couple of short punches.
Carter trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.

Jones pushes Carter off and gets back to his feet.
Jones throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Carter stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Jones tries to clinch up.
A looping hook to the body misses from Carter. Jones does a little dance to reset his feet.
Carter avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Carter circles away from the clinch attempt.
Carter swats away the attempt to clinch by Jones.
Jones throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Carter sees it coming and avoids it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones cracks Carter with a right hand to the side of the head.
Nice cross by Carter.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jones is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Carter throws a right hand that Jones ducks under and follows up with a left that Jones also avoids with ease.
Jones throws a series of punches but Carter avoids them all with ease.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Carter sprawls well. Carter wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jones gets slowly back to his feet.
Carter fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Jones manages to avoid it.
Jones misses with a kick to the body.
Sue Carter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jones throws a low kick but it's checked well by Carter.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carter swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
That kick from Carter tenderised Jones's leg. Jones is trying to keep his angry face on.
Carter circles away from the clinch attempt.
Carter lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Jones circles away quickly and effectively.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Barclay Jones.
I think Jones has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
