PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Quan Raiden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Napoleon Bonaparte (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Raiden comes to the cage accompanied by Boss Battle. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Quan Raiden!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Napoleon Bonaparte!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A chopping leg kick lands by Raiden.
Raiden throws a leg kick which misses Bonaparte's front leg but catches the back leg as Bonaparte tries to avoid it.
Raiden misses with a kick to the body.

and Bonaparte counters with a single leg into guard. Raiden didn't expect that.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Raiden has control of Bonaparte's left arm, preventing Bonaparte from doing any damage.
Bonaparte is stalling in the full guard.
Raiden is pulling down on Bonaparte's head. It's preventing any offense from Bonaparte, at least for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Quan Raiden.
Raiden leaves Bonaparte with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Napoleon Bonaparte hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Raiden looks for the body kick but Bonaparte saw that one coming.
Raiden tries to close the distance and clinch but Bonaparte swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Bonaparte shoots in for a takedown but Raiden shows good takedown defense.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Raiden wants to clinch.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Bonaparte is defended easily by Raiden.
Quan Raiden has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Napoleon Bonaparte.

Bonaparte changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Raiden tries to avoid it but Bonaparte manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Raiden to the ground. Raiden escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bonaparte misses with a takedown attempt - Raiden sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Bonaparte gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

and Raiden counters with a nice uppercut.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bonaparte throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Raiden's waist but Raiden gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bonaparte off to one side.
Raiden lands a nice looking body kick.
Bonaparte looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Raiden is fending him off so far but Bonaparte persists. Nope, Raiden circles away and we're back to standing.
Raiden misses with a wild body shot.
Bonaparte staying out of range there.
Raiden is looking to clinch but Bonaparte is avoiding it.
Bonaparte shoots in looking for a takedown. Raiden tries to sprawl out of it but Bonaparte keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Raiden manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bonaparte on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Quan Raiden will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Bonaparte fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Bonaparte shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Raiden throws a head kick but Bonaparte moves out of range.
Bonaparte looks for a takedown but Raiden sprawls well.
Raiden throws a sloppy head kick and Bonaparte moves out of range easily.
Raiden lands a really nice looking cross but Bonaparte seems unphased.

Quan Raiden has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Napoleon Bonaparte.

Raiden will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Napoleon Bonaparte was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Raiden scores with a hook to the body. Bonaparte takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Bonaparte wants to control from the top but Raiden keeps moving.
Bonaparte is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Bonaparte tries to free his leg and advance position but Raiden is retaining full guard.
Bonaparte is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bonaparte won't allow Raiden to sweep him here.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Napoleon Bonaparte wasn't active enough on the ground.
Bonaparte tries to score a power double leg takedown but Raiden sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bonaparte somewhat.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Raiden with a nice cross.
Raiden lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Bonaparte ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Bonaparte looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bonaparte lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Bonaparte wants to pass to mount but Raiden is defending the position.
Raiden is controlling Bonaparte's trapped leg to prevent Bonaparte from advancing to side control.
Bonaparte throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bonaparte is controlling the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Napoleon Bonaparte showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Bonaparte shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Raiden pinned against the cage. Raiden gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bonaparte tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Bonaparte throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Raiden works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Raiden is not content to let Bonaparte control the position.

Bonaparte looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Raiden tries to roll over but Bonaparte keeps him under control.
Raiden is refusing to be controlled, as Bonaparte sits in half guard.
Raiden is looking for a sweep. Bonaparte is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Napoleon Bonaparte has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Raiden displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bonaparte.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Raiden fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Raiden looks to land a right hand but Bonaparte moved out of range.
Bonaparte throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Raiden's waist but Raiden gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bonaparte off to one side.

Napoleon Bonaparte is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Raiden stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Raiden wants it to stay on the feet.

Bonaparte wants to lay and pray for a moment but Raiden keeps working.
Bonaparte is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Raiden will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
Napoleon Bonaparte comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Bonaparte has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Napoleon Bonaparte decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
