Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Time Newhouse!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sin Cara!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Seu Braga and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cara gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Cara being controlled here, momentarily.

Time Newhouse has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Cara enables Newhouse to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cara manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Cara looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Newhouse is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Time Newhouse has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Newhouse closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Cara quickly recovers to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Newhouse slows the pace down in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Time Newhouse just wasn't active enough.

Cara looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Newhouse!
Cara avoids the attempt from Newhouse to control.
Newhouse is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Cara is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Newhouse tries to control Cara's body but Cara pushes him off. Newhouse squirms to his side and now Cara has his back!
Newhouse turns into Cara and is now in his guard.
Cara looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Newhouse puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Time Newhouse dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Newhouse misses with an attempted mid kick.
Newhouse throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cara's waist but Cara gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Newhouse off to one side.
Cara is looking to clinch but Newhouse is avoiding it.
Newhouse tries for a takedown but Cara sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Newhouse closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Cara's guard.

Cara looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Newhouse has picked Cara up and slammed him! Cara can't keep hold of the triangle and Newhouse manages to pass to side control!
Newhouse just content to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Newhouse stands up.
Newhouse has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Time Newhouse. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Newhouse dives in and grabs Cara's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cara pushes down on Newhouse's head and hops out.
Newhouse shoots in and drives through. Cara sprawls well.
Cara tries to bum rush Newhouse with a series of wild strikes but Newhouse uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Nice takedown defense from Cara. No joy for Newhouse on that attempt.
Newhouse pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Cara throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Newhouse shoots for a takedown but Cara saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Newhouse tries to clinch up.

Newhouse moves into the clinch.

Cara gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Newhouse gets back to full guard.
Newhouse controlling the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Newhouse is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Newhouse slows the pace down in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Newhouse seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Cara for as long as he can get away with.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Time Newhouse dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Newhouse fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Cara throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Newhouse looking to score a takedown here. Cara is defending well but Newhouse drives through and ends up in Cara's guard.
Newhouse works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Cara looking for submissions off his back.
Newhouse stalling.
Cara should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Newhouse is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Cara sees it coming and defends easily.

Newhouse seems to be working for a kimura but Cara defends the submission attempt.

Cara actively working from the bottom here.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Newhouse is controlling the pace.
Newhouse will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Time Newhouse just wasn't active enough.
Newhouse fails with a takedown attempt.

Cara gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Newhouse to score an easy takedown into full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Time Newhouse showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Newhouse has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
