Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kostas Ninas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bill Russell!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Chad Campbell and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Russell is defended easily by Ninas.
Bill Russell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Russell slips under a jab from Ninas.
Ninas lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Russell takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Ninas lands a left and a right that sends Russell crashing to the canvas! Ninas dives into mount looking to finish!


It looks like Bill Russell has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Russell is looking to get to half guard.
Ninas can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Russell is looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Russell regains half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ninas stalling.
Russell works his way to full guard. Good work.

Russell kicks Ninas off and gets to his feet.
Russell takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Ninas goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
A slow jab from Ninas misses its intended target.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ninas stuffs the takedown.
Ninas swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
A big right from Russell misses.
A telegraphed right hand from Ninas misses the target.

Russell looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Ninas!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Russell thowing shots but they're missing.
Russell working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Russell looking to ground and pound but Ninas is blocking nicely.

Russell looking to finish Ninas with some ground and pound. This is bad for Ninas!

Russell looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Ninas has left one of his arms exposed and Russell doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Ninas screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Bill Russell!
