The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carlos misses with a takedown

and Ismail counters with a shoot takedown. Carlos fights it but they end up in guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Ismail postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Ismail trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Carlos is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Carlos is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Ismail sees it coming and defends easily.

Ismail sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Carlos's guard.
Ismail stalling away here and it's allowed Carlos to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Ismail keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Carlos enables Ismail to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Carlos manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Carlos is trying to control the position but Ismail postures up.
Ismail stays in close to Carlos's body and controls the position.
Ismail wants to pass the guard but Carlos is keeping the position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carlos defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Ismail.

Ismail feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

and Ismail counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Carlos!

The referee warns Carlos that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Ismail is cranking Carlos's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Carlos! He's tightened the choke and Carlos is tapping out!
