PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Francis Santana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jakob Alexander (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alexander has chosen Lunatic Fringe as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Francis Santana!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jakob Alexander!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Dean Styles and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santana uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Alexander.
Santana looks for a takedown but Alexander sprawls well.

Santana closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Alexander's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Santana is trying to break the clinch but Alexander has him pressed against the cage.

Alexander jumps guard and drags Santana to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Alexander working for a triangle but Santana defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Santana throws a big right hand that misses.
Santana sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Alexander manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Santana on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Santana tries to get out of the position.

Alexander is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Santana has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Santana wants to control his opponent's hands but Alexander gets his hands free.
Santana is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Alexander is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Santana rolls, trying to escape but Alexander keeps control of the position.
Santana is trying to get back to his feet but Alexander has full control of the position and if anything, Santana has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Santana wants to control his opponent's hands but Alexander gets his hands free.
Santana is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round but I would say that Francis Santana will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Santana lands with a nice combination. Alexander backs away looking to recover.

and Santana holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Alexander is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Santana pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Alexander keeps control of Santana as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Alexander is trying to break the clinch but Santana is controlling him.
Santana wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Santana is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Alexander to keep the fight standing.
Santana is pushing Alexander up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Santana has had enough of the clinch but Alexander keeps him there for the moment.
Santana tries to circle away but Alexander has him pinned against the cage.
Alexander is pressed up against the cage. Santana has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Alexander down to the mat. Alexander avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Alexander shoots in but no luck this time.
Alexander is breathing heavily.
Santana throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Alexander's waist but Alexander gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Santana off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Francis Santana. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Alexander avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

and Santana counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Santana takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Francis Santana seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alexander throws a series of punches but Santana moves out of range.
Santana tries to score a power double leg takedown but Alexander sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Santana somewhat.

and Santana counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Santana throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Santana shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Alexander fails to pull guard.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Santana takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Santana misses with an elbow over the top.
Santana pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Alexander misses with a body punch.
Alexander has Santana pressed against the cage, preventing Santana from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Alexander prevents Santana from breaking the clinch.
Santana goes for a takedown attempt but Alexander pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Santana breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Alexander leaves Santana with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Alexander pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Santana back to the cage. Alexander follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Jakob Alexander has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Alexander tries to close the distance and clinch up but Santana swats him away and circles back towards the center.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Jakob Alexander.
Well Santana has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
