PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tong Po (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arthur Guinness (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Po comes to the cage accompanied by Frank Zappa - Muffin Man. Guinness has chosen Ev Christr` Ta, Laou! as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, John Kavanagh and Jonathan Paton.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guinness throws a combination that misses
and Po counters with a head kick. That will keep Guinness thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Guinness scores with a jab to the body.
Po gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Guinness lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

It looks like Tong Po has been cut.
Po looks to score with a jab to the body but Guinness is just out of range.
Po tries to clinch up.
Po tries to close the distance and clinch up but Guinness swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Guinness's corner calls for a 1-2. Guinness obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Po wants to clinch.
Guinness swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Po tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A left and a right from Guinness both land. Nice combination.
Po throws a head kick that misses
and Guinness counters with a right hand to the body.

Po clinches up against the cage.

Po lands a knee to the head.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Guinness.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Po takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Guinness struggles to land a body shot inside as Po controls his hands.
Guinness can't find room to land a body shot as Po controls the action.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Po misses with a knee strike.
Po has had enough of the clinch but Guinness keeps him there for the moment.
Po wants to get back to striking at distance but Guinness won't allow it.

Po breaks the clinch.
Po throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Tong Po is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Guinness lands a really nice looking cross but Po seems unphased.
Guinness will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Po tries to clinch there but Guinness circles away.
Guinness wants to clinch up but Po keeps it at a distance.
Guinness fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Guinness lands a nice hook to Po's body. Po takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
A right-left combo lands from Guinness.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Left hook, right uppercut from Guinness.
Guinness connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Po momentarily.
Po tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
A head kick misses from Po.

Po moves into the clinch successfully.
Guinness wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Po has him pressed against the cage.
Guinness takes a knee right on the jaw!

It looks like Arthur Guinness has been cut.
Guinness wants a takedown but no success here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Guinness is trying to break free.
Po dodges an elbow strike from Guinness.
Po's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Po unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Po with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Guinness digs a right hand underneath Po's ribcage. Po let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Guinness using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Po has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
A frustrated look appears on Guinness's face as he tries to break the clinch.
With the fighters up against the cage, Guinness throws an elbow but misses.
Po tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Po trying to land knees to the body.
Guinness lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Po backwards.

Po escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Po tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Guinness connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Tong Po's cut is getting worse.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Po moves in looking to clinch but Guinness pushes him off.
Po misses with a head kick.
Guinness misses with a wild body shot.
Guinness connects with the punch.
Guinness lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Po tries to clinch but Guinness is having none of it.
Guinness is working the combinations to good effect here.
Po's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Guinness connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Po scrambles back to his feet.

A jab-cross combination lands for Guinness and sends Po crashing to the mat! Guinness follows him down to the mat - Po regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Arthur Guinness dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's time! Back to the action!

Guinness circles away from the clinch attempt.
A decent looking cross lands there for Guinness.
Oh Po is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Po pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Po seems to have got his legs back now.
Po tries to clinch there but Guinness circles away.
Tong Po is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Po swats away the attempt to clinch by Guinness.
Guinness is really turning it up, unleashing another crisp combination which drops Po like a ton of bricks! The referee dives in to stop the fight, saving Po from another fist facial!
