PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Curtain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Bower (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Curtain comes to the cage accompanied by I'm coming home. Bower has chosen When I'm With You as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kevin Curtain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dave Bower!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Hugh Johnson and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from Curtain misses the target.
Curtain ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bower moves away.

Bower throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Curtain was covering up waiting for the punch and Bower finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Curtain escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bower gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Bower missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Bower working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Bower controls from within his opponent's guard.
Curtain bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bower's guard.
Bower tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Curtain is looking to advance position but Bower has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Bower takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Curtain is looking to get to half guard.
Bower wants to control the pace but Curtain is squirming around nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Curtain manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Bower missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Bower is looking for a kimura but Curtain is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Bower to get the leverage.
Bower seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Bower moves into full mount! Curtain won't be happy about that!
Curtain is trying desperately to improve position.
Curtain is in a horrible position here. Bower smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Curtain is in all sorts of trouble here.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Curtain manages to regain half guard. Good work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bower throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Bower not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Curtain tries to get to full guard but Bower has control of the leg.

Bower is working for a kimura but Curtain is defending it quite comfortably.

Curtain is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Bower pulls his head out easily.
Curtain wants to get back to full guard.
Bower wants to take a breather but Curtain is having none of it.

Bower decides to stand up.
Bower uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Curtain.
Bower slips under a jab.
Bower misses with a wild body shot.
Bower looks to land a left hand but Curtain moved out of range nicely.
Bower cracks a nice hook into Curtain's ribs.
Bower lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Curtain.
Bower lands a right hook to the body.
Bower connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Curtain momentarily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Curtain throws a body kick that misses.
A looping hook to the body misses from Bower. Curtain does a little dance to reset his feet.
Bower tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A big right from Curtain misses.
Kevin Curtain is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Bower throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Curtain throws a hook to the side of Bower's head but Bower sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Bower tries to close the distance and clinch up but Curtain swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Curtain thows a body shot but no joy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A lazy left from Bower finds it's target.

Curtain gets tackled into the cage by Bower. Bower maintains the clinch.
Curtain prevents a body shot from Bower.

Curtain pulls guard.
Curtain tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dave Bower dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Curtain tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bower was well out of range. Poor timing from Curtain.
Bower works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Curtain slips a jab from Bower.
Curtain looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Good exchange - Curtain coming out on top.
Dave Bower seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Curtain throws a half hearted mid kick.
Curtain throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Bower swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Bower lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.


It looks like Kevin Curtain has been cut.
Curtain ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bower moves away.

Bower has managed to clinch.
Curtain scores with a nice hook to the head.
Bower tries to throw a body punch but Curtain avoids it by throwing Bower back against the cage.
Curtain wants to take the fight to the mat but Bower manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Bower works on Curtain's body with a couple of short punches.
Curtain takes an elbow to the forehead.
Bower lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Oh Curtain is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bower has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Curtain regains guard immediately.

Bower is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Bower's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Bower lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Bower sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Curtain's guard.
Bower lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Curtain quite badly. Curtain pulls Bower in close trying to recover. Bower postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Curtain on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Curtain doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dave Bower!
Dave Bower made sure to give a little speech post fight, saying 'Im happy with this win. I wasn't sure how it would go with the back injury I have. I threw it out humping Curtain's mom last night!'.
