PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Domingos Savio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Datui Ryu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Savio comes into the arena with Remember the name blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Domingos Savio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Datui Ryu!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Bruno Lombardi and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Savio gets a clinch.

Savio jumps guard and drags Ryu to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Savio is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Ryu wants to control from the top but Savio keeps moving.
Savio looking to control but Ryu passes into half guard.
Ryu looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Savio tries to get to full guard but Ryu has control of the leg.
Savio blocking the ground and pound attempt from Ryu.
Ryu seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Savio does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Savio tries to kick Ryu off but Ryu keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Savio manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Ryu stands and steps away. Savio gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Horrible takedown by Ryu or perhaps it was just good defense by Savio which made him look bad.

Savio has managed to clinch.
Ryu wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Savio has him pressed against the cage.

Savio breaks from the clinch.
Ryu blocks a low kick nicely.

Savio closes the distance and pushes Ryu back into the cage.
Ryu fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Savio wants the takedown. Ryu is fighting it off but Savio persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Ryu's guard against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Ryu is looking for a triangle but Savio pushes his legs off easily.
Ryu trying to keep a closed guard but Savio is proving a slippery customer.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Savio trying to control but Ryu is working from the bottom.
Savio won't allow Ryu to sweep him here.
Ryu is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Ryu is pressing down on Savio's thigh, looking to free his foot. Savio is holding on for now.
Savio moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Ryu throwing strikes but missing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ryu tries to stand but Savio is controlling from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ryu pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Savio is keeping the position for now.
Ryu postures up.

Ryu stands up and waves to Savio to follow him.
Ryu wants to clinch up but Savio keeps it at a distance.
Ryu gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Savio.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ryu tries to clinch but Savio is having none of it.
Savio displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ryu.
Domingos Savio has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Datui Ryu.

Savio closes the distance and clinches.
Savio on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Ryu can't break the clinch.
Savio tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Ryu avoids it.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Savio as Ryu tries to tie him up.
Ryu is trying to pull guard but Savio has him pressed against the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Savio tries to pull guard but Ryu forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Savio gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Ryu.
Ryu trying to control the position but instead, Savio has worked for underhooks and has pushed Ryu into the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Domingos Savio will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Ryu shoots in for a double leg but Savio sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Domingos Savio is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Savio pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Savio gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Ryu wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Savio has him pressed against the cage.
Ryu jumps guard but Savio turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Ryu is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Savio to keep the fight standing.
Domingos Savio has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Datui Ryu.

Savio manages to break the clinch.
Savio slips under a jab.
Ryu changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Savio tries to avoid it but Ryu manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Savio to the ground. Savio escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Savio misses with a head kick.

Savio closes the distance and pushes Ryu back into the cage.
Ryu trying to control the position but instead, Savio has worked for underhooks and has pushed Ryu into the cage.

Savio ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Savio no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Savio can't keep his opponent in guard - Ryu advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Savio has one foot on Ryu's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ryu is defended easily by Savio.
Ryu misses with a head kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A solid leg kick lands there for Savio.

Savio moves into the clinch.

Savio breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A head kick misses from Savio.
Savio will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Savio tries to clinch there but Ryu circles away.

Savio rushes Ryu and presses him up against the cage.
Savio is pressed up against the cage. Ryu has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Savio down to the mat. Savio avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Domingos Savio seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Savio closes the distance and clinches.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ryu is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Savio is defending well for now.

Savio successfully pulls guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ryu slips nicely into half guard.
Ryu is looking to take a break and control but Savio is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ryu is trying to work for a kimura but Savio is defending well.
Ryu controlling the pace.
Savio trying to control but Ryu postures up.
Ryu passes to side control.
Ryu staying calm.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ryu wants to lay and pray for a moment but Savio keeps working.

Ryu stands up and beckons Savio to his feet.

Savio has closed the distance and engaged Ryu in a clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Savio pulls Ryu into guard.
Ryu controlling from the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Domingos Savio will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Ryu throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Savio throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Ryu.


It looks like Datui Ryu has been cut.
Savio circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Ryu drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Savio follows Ryu to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:21 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Domingos Savio!
During a confident post fight interview, Domingos Savio thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
