PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mr Phil Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Elsworth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Elsworth has chosen Iron Maiden - Killers as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mr Phil Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 12 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rob Elsworth!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Konstantin Menshow and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Elsworth connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Rob Elsworth seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Elsworth throws a leg kick that misses.
Elsworth just misses with a punch to the body.
Elsworth defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Davis.
Davis checks a leg kick.
Elsworth throws a leg kick but Davis moved away.
Elsworth throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Elsworth moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Davis gets the takedown into side control.
Davis throws an elbow but Elsworth slips to the side and avoids it well.
Davis throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Davis is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Elsworth will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Elsworth takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Davis working the head and body with strikes.

Davis looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Elsworth tries to improve position but can't.
A lull in the action here as Davis stalls from top position.
Elsworth avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Davis.
Davis has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Davis controlling the pace for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Davis can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Elsworth is looking to escape.
Davis throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Davis controlling the position easily from mount.
Elsworth tries to hold on but Davis postures up.
Davis trying to control but he's not successful this time.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Davis pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Davis postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Elsworth looks a forlorn figure.
Davis throws some wild stikes that Elsworth manages to avoid easily.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Elsworth can do anything to dispel that myth.
Davis raining down hammerfists from mount.
Davis postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Elsworth looks a forlorn figure.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Davis looking to control and managing it successfully.
Davis lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Elsworth takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Davis looking to control but Elsworth is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Davis raining down hammerfists from mount.
Davis throwing strikes here but Elsworth is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Elsworth wants to hold on but Davis pushes him away.
Davis landing strikes from the mount and Elsworth is in trouble!
Davis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
