PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anton Goliathov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Paua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paua closes the distance but Goliathov moves to the side
and Goliathov counters with a nice body shot.
Goliathov ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Paua moves away.
Paua lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Goliathov circles away quickly and effectively.

Paua throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Goliathov was covering up waiting for the punch and Paua finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Goliathov is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Goliathov wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Paua manages to pass to side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Goliathov makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

and Paua counters with a series of strikes. Goliathov will be more careful next time no doubt.
Paua moves in looking to clinch but Goliathov pushes him off.

Paua drives through with a takedown into guard.
Paua looks gassed!
Paua is looking to stand up but Goliathov won't let him.

Goliathov is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Paua pulls Goliathov into guard.
Goliathov has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Paua is working an open guard so Goliathov takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Paua fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Goliathov to the ground. Paua is now in Goliathov's guard.
Goliathov wants to stand up but Paua is controlling him.

Goliathov manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Paua gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Goliathov.
Goliathov avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

Goliathov misses with a hook. Paua ducked under it nicely.

Paua closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Goliathov sneaks out the side door and pushes Paua away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Goliathov misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Paua.
Goliathov takes a swing at Paua's ribcage but misses.
Goliathov lands a nice shot that snaps Paua's head back.
Paua takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Goliathov loads up on a big right hand but Paua slips the punch.
Paua closes the distance but Goliathov moves to the side
and Goliathov counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Goliathov misses with an uppercut. Paua saw that one coming.

Goliathov connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Paua drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Goliathov wriggles free and stands up.
Paua pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
No joy there for Goliathov, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Paua closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Goliathov to the mat! Goliathov manages to get full guard.
Goliathov wants to get back to his feet but Paua is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Paua stands up and waves to Goliathov to follow him.
Paua moves to clinch but Goliathov breaks away
and Goliathov counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anton Goliathov dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Paua shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Goliathov manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Goliathov scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

and Paua counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Goliathov is lucky that one didn't land flush.

and Paua counters with a right hand to the body.

and Paua counters with a three punch combo that has Goliathov backing up. Goliathov nods at Paua to acknowledge the strikes.

Paua moves into the clinch.
Paua wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Goliathov escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Goliathov throws a combination that misses
and Paua cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Goliathov throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Paua counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Goliathov thinking.

Goliathov tries to keep at a distance but Paua has taken the fight into the clinch.
Paua has had enough of the clinch but Goliathov keeps him there for the moment.

Paua jumps guard.

Goliathov scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Goliathov is looking to work some ground and pound but Paua has wrist control.
Paua lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Goliathov!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Goliathov's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Goliathov is squirming around, avoiding Paua's attempts to control the action.

Paua pushes off an throws an elbow but Goliathov leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Paua looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Paua changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Goliathov looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Max Paua showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Paua decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Paua is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Goliathov is trying to stand.
Goliathov trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Paua is trying to control the action in half guard but Goliathov is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Paua decides to return to a standing position.

Paua fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Goliathov to the ground. Paua is now in Goliathov's guard.

Goliathov has his feet on Paua's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Paua moves to clinch but Goliathov breaks away
and Goliathov counters with a three punch combo that has Paua backing up. Paua nods at Goliathov to acknowledge the strikes.

Goliathov is fighting off a takedown attempt but Paua is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Goliathov to the mat. Goliathov regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Goliathov has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Paua off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Paua clinches up with Goliathov and pushes him back against the cage.

Paua looks to land a body kick but Goliathov moved away.

Paua shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Max Paua has got the better of the ground game so far.
