PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dave Gebhard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Monkey D Luffy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Monkey D Luffy told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dave Gebhard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Monkey D Luffy!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shigeki Sano and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gebhard shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Luffy is trying to defend but Gebhard finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Gebhard will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gebhard accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Luffy wants to get back to his feet but Gebhard is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Luffy is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Luffy looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gebhard won't allow Luffy to pass to mount.
Gebhard is trying to stand up here but Luffy is controlling him well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Gebhard has one foot on Luffy's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Gebhard tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Luffy swivels and escapes.

Luffy goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Luffy changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gebhard tries to avoid it but Luffy manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gebhard to the ground. Gebhard escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Gebhard throws and elbow that misses. Luffy uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Gebhard's guard. Nice move by Luffy!

Gebhard had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Luffy defends it easily.
Gebhard is looking to stand up but Luffy isn't so interested in that idea.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dave Gebhard. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Luffy is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gebhard.

Well Gebhard has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
