PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Yoshihiro Nakayama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Dover (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yoshihiro Nakayama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ben Dover!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Gwen Towbar and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dover misses with a takedown attempt - Nakayama sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Dover wants to clinch.
Dover shoots in for a double leg but Nakayama sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Nakayama shoots and misses
and Dover counters with a body kick that stops Nakayama in his tracks momentarily.
Nakayama shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dover as he avoids it easily.
Dover tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Nakayama paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Nakayama is looking to break free of the clinch but Dover has double underhooks.
Dover is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Dover jumps into guard, dragging Nakayama to the mat.

Dover seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Dover pushes Nakayama off and scrambles back to his feet.

and Nakayama counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Nakayama is looking to clinch but Dover is avoiding it.

and Nakayama counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Nakayama.

Dover manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Dover has his foot on Nakayama's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nakayama works his way back into a safe position though.

Dover is pulling down on Nakayama's head to control his posture.
Dover is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Dover is looking to stand up but Nakayama isn't so interested in that idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dover is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Nakayama moves in looking to clinch but Dover pushes him off.

Nakayama is not content to let Dover control the position.

Nakayama takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Despite being in the dominant position, Ben Dover just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Nakayama counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Nakayama.

Dover had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Nakayama is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Dover Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Nakayama's back instead.

Dover misses with an elbow to the head.
Dover lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Dover.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nakayama is really stuck here.
Oooh a big shot gets through from Dover. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!

Dover just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Ben Dover showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Dover lands a two punch combo.
Nakayama stuffs the takedown attempt from Dover. Dover gets slowly back to his feet.
Horrible takedown by Nakayama or perhaps it was just good defense by Dover which made him look bad.
Nakayama keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dover tries to lock up and control but Nakayama gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Dover tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Dover wants to control but Nakayama is having none of it.
Yoshihiro Nakayama has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Ben Dover comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Dover has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
