The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Idaho dives in and grabs Ribeiro's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ribeiro pushes down on Idaho's head and hops out.
Ribeiro tries to bum rush Idaho with a series of wild strikes but Idaho uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Ribeiro slaps away a takedown attempt from Idaho, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Idaho tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ribeiro sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Idaho somewhat.
Gabriel Ribeiro has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Duncan Idaho.
Ribeiro throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Ribeiro ducks under a wild hook from Idaho.
Ribeiro throws a series of punches but Idaho moves out of range.

It looks like Duncan Idaho has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ribeiro rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Idaho moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Ribeiro throws a right and a left that both miss.
Ribeiro throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Idaho's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Ribeiro dives in looking to finish as Idaho flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Ribeiro's strikes! Ribeiro is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Idaho's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Idaho was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
