PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Trapp Deathgrip (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris The Great (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Trapp Deathgrip!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chris The Great!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Deathgrip misses with a lunging right hand
and The Great counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Chris The Great seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Deathgrip stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Deathgrip wants it to stay on the feet.

The Great throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Deathgrip was covering up waiting for the punch and The Great finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Deathgrip wants to improve his position but instead The Great has moved into half guard.
Deathgrip wants to sweep but The Great has passed to side control!

The Great tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no The Great has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The Great wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Deathgrip, who protects the arm well.

The Great wants to lay and pray for a moment but Deathgrip keeps working.
The Great is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Deathgrip's shoulder. That is not cool.
Deathgrip is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Deathgrip is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The Great wants to pass the guard but Deathgrip is defending well.
The Great is trying to control the action in half guard but Deathgrip is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Deathgrip won't allow The Great to pass to mount.

Deathgrip is looking for a sweep. The Great is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Deathgrip holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
The Great seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Deathgrip does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Deathgrip is trying to get back to full guard.
The Great seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The Great prevents Deathgrip from improving his position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Chris The Great.

The Great closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Deathgrip to the mat! Deathgrip manages to get full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The Great gets to his feet - Deathgrip follows without any prompting.
Jab, jab by Deathgrip - just one landing.
Deathgrip fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but The Great avoids it really well and circles away.
The Great tries to move into range but Deathgrip moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

The Great changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Deathgrip looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Deathgrip tries to improve position but can't.

The Great thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Deathgrip is trying to control The Great's posture but The Great avoids it.
Deathgrip is not content to let The Great control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Deathgrip prevents The Great from improving position.

The Great tries for a kimura but Deathgrip is defending well.
Deathgrip tries to bench press The Great off him but The Great keeps the position.
The Great moves into full mount!
The Great punishing his opponent with strikes.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The Great wants to control the pace but Deathgrip is squirming around nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris The Great dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


The Great with a lazy takedown attempt

and Deathgrip counters with a single leg into guard. The Great didn't expect that.
Deathgrip has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Deathgrip drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and The Great dives on top into guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Deathgrip is looking to regain half guard here but The Great keeps moving and retains side control.

The Great has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Deathgrip leaves The Great with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Deathgrip darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The Great changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Deathgrip looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The Great is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Deathgrip has escaped the position, nice work there.
Deathgrip regains half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

The Great ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Deathgrip moves away.

Deathgrip throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Deathgrip missing with a left hand there. The Great was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Chris The Great has got the better of the ground game so far.

The Great has his foot on Deathgrip's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Deathgrip works his way back into a safe position though.

The Great had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Deathgrip defends it easily.
Deathgrip sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed The Great's guard.

The Great has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Deathgrip is working away from the top position though.
The Great tries to get to full guard but Deathgrip has control of the leg.
The Great is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Deathgrip's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Deathgrip's back!

The Great is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Deathgrip has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but The Great has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Deathgrip taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. The Great doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:52 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Chris The Great! Chris The Great retains his welterweight title!
