The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Giffard closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. DeNiro did well to prevent Giffard getting side control.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
DeNiro wants to get back to his feet.
Giffard is stalling here. DeNiro is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Giffard seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and DeNiro has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

DeNiro tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no DeNiro has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Giffard tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but DeNiro wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
DeNiro throws an elbow but Giffard slips to the side and avoids it well.

DeNiro has hold of Giffard's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Giffard tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - DeNiro cranks the arm and Giffard screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Giffard, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
