PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Hioshido Tamada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yates Ukitsu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yates Ukitsu will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hioshido Tamada!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yates Ukitsu!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ukitsu tries to bum rush Tamada with a series of wild strikes but Tamada uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Tamada displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Ukitsu throws out the jab.
Ukitsu looks to score with a jab to the body but Tamada is just out of range.
Tamada looks to land a combination. Ukitsu sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Tamada has his takedown stuffed
letting Ukitsu counter with a right hand.
Ukitsu throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
A jab from Ukitsu misses.
Tamada moves in looking to clinch but Ukitsu pushes him off.

Tamada fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ukitsu sprawls well initially but Tamada persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Tamada content to control rather than advance.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Tamada missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Ukitsu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tamada. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tamada not doing much here.
Tamada has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Hioshido Tamada just wasn't active enough.
Tamada shoots in and drives through. Ukitsu sprawls well.
Ukitsu leaves Tamada with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hioshido Tamada. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ukitsu throws a nice looking combination but Tamada bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tamada moves in looking to clinch but Ukitsu pushes him off.
Ukitsu on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Tamada. Tamada obviously looking to wear him down.
A punch lands to the side of Tamada 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Ukitsu is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Tamada lands a glancing blow to the side of Ukitsu's head.
A jab from Ukitsu finds it's way through Tamada's defenses.
Ukitsu misses with a straight left.
Tamada shoots in looking for a takedown but Ukitsu manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Tamada's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Tamada takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Tamada shoots in for a takedown but Ukitsu shows good takedown defense.
Tamada looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ukitsu throws a hook to the side of Tamada's head but Tamada sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Ukitsu lands with a nice body punch.
Ukitsu throws a lazy right hand but Tamada sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Ukitsu ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Tamada misses with a takedown attempt - Ukitsu sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Tamada steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Ukitsu.
Ukitsu bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Tamada tries to clinch up but Ukitsu circles away and keeps his distance.
Danga de danga de dang - Ukitsu scores with a four punch combination!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ukitsu throws a right hand that misses
and Tamada finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Ukitsu throws a body punch but Tamada moves out of range.
Tamada tries for a takedown but Ukitsu sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Tamada shoots in but no luck this time.
Tamada is breathing heavily.
Ukitsu thumps Tamada with a low kick.
Tamada takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Tamada gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Ukitsu counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ukitsu throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Tamada closes the distance but Ukitsu moves to the side
and Ukitsu counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Hioshido Tamada will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Ukitsu cracks Tamada with an open hand slap.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Tamada.

Tamada clinches up against the cage.
Ukitsu scores with a shoulder strike.
Ukitsu tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Tamada blocks an uppercut.

Ukitsu's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Hioshido Tamada seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tamada fails with a takedown attempt.
Ukitsu swings for the body but Tamada moves out of range.
Ukitsu avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Ukitsu waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Tamada.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Tamada closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Ukitsu quickly recovers to half guard.

Ukitsu is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Tamada has latched onto it... Big trouble! Tamada pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Ukitsu is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Tamada!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Hioshido Tamada!
