The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ya Xu closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Petrov is not content to let Ya Xu control the position.
Ya Xu lands a nice forearm strike.
Ya Xu has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ya Xu tries to advance to mount but Petrov denies him.
Petrov tries to buck Ya Xu off but Ya Xu is having none of it.
Petrov manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Petrov is trying to get back to full guard.
Petrov makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Petrov.

Petrov is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Petrov can do anything to dispel that myth.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ya Xu connects with a nice short shot to Petrov's temple.

Petrov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ya Xu. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Ya Xu shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Ya Xu was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Petrov takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Ya Xu is landing with some decent strikes but Petrov is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Petrov tries to lock up and control but Ya Xu gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
