PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Red (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jimmy Red!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mark Hunter!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Roosa Järviläinen and Matti Vanhoillinen.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hunter connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Hunter fails with an attempt to clinch.

Red fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hunter sprawls well initially but Red persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Red trying to pass the guard but Hunter defending well.
Hunter is looking to escape.
Red throwing shots but Hunter is blocking nicely.
Red with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Hunter is not content to let Red control the position.
Hunter tries to kick Red off but Red keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Red is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hunter doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Red.

Red is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Hunter has managed to free his arm - good work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Red trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Hunter is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Red wants to pass the guard but Hunter is keeping the position.
Red won't allow Hunter to get back to his feet.
Red could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Hunter tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Hunter shoots and misses

and Red counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Red jumps guard and drags Hunter to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Red has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Hunter is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Red.
Red tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Hunter tries to stand but Red is controlling his head.

Red throws Hunter to one side and escapes!
Red has his takedown stuffed
and Hunter counters with a good low kick that Red was not able to check.
Red is breathing heavily.
Hunter tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Red counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Red.
Hunter throws a knee to the head but misses.

Red has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Hunter regains guard immediately.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hunter is trying to control the position but Red postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Red is pushing down on Hunter's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hunter is fighting to maintain full guard but Red has managed to sneak the leg through.

Red stops Hunter from getting back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Red passes to side control.
Hunter is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Red asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Red tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Hunter regains half guard, as Red was trying to land strikes.
Red performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hunter pushes Red off looking to stand but Red dives back in and keeps control.
Hunter is looking to improve his position.
Red is looking to advance position but Hunter won't allow it.
Hunter wants to control but Red is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Red stops Hunter from getting back to his feet.
Still in half guard, Red seems content to control.

Red seems to be working for a kimura but Hunter defends the submission attempt.
Red looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Red shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Red was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy Red dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Red looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hunter is fending him off so far but Red persists. Nope, Hunter circles away and we're back to standing.
Red swings away with a body shot that misses
and Hunter counters with a straight right hand.
Hunter misses with a two punch combination.
Hunter throws out a powerful jab.

Red forces Hunter back against the cage and clinches.
Red blocking some punches.

Red pulls Hunter into guard.
Hunter trying to control but Red is working from the bottom.
Hunter stopping the sweep attempt from Red.
Hunter tries to stand but Red is controlling from the bottom.
Red throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hunter is sitting in close to Red's body. Red has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Hunter is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Hunter is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Red.
