Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jake Shields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carlos Velensia!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velensia misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Velensia closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Velensia lands a nice shot to the body.
Velensia defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Shields.
Velensia shoots in for a takedown but Shields shows good takedown defense.

Shields fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Velensia to the ground. Shields is now in Velensia's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Velensia is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Shields is controlling him.
Velensia can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Shields controls the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Shields shoots in for a takedown but Velensia shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Shields throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Velensia tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Shields is in Velensia's guard.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Velensia's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Carlos Velensia hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Shields is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Shields stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Shields wants it to stay on the feet.

Shields takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Shields bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Velensia wants to get back to his feet but Shields is dominant here and he's now got Velensia's back!

Shields has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Velensia's body.
Velensia controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Velensia has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Shields, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
