PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Karol Roger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Will Bryant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Karol Roger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Will Bryant!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Felipe Paraventi and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roger lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bryant circles away quickly and effectively.

Bryant closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Roger quickly recovers to half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Bryant is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Bryant is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Roger still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Roger has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Bryant wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Roger, who protects the arm well.

Roger throws Bryant to one side and escapes!

Bryant throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Roger was covering up waiting for the punch and Bryant finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Bryant won't allow Roger to get back to his feet.

Bryant drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bryant jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Roger is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bryant stands and throws Roger's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Bryant is looking to take a break and control but Roger is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Roger is trying to get back to his feet.

Bryant tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bryant has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Bryant is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Bryant tries for a kimura but Roger is defending well.

Bryant is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Roger is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Bryant wants to lay and pray for a moment but Roger keeps working.

Bryant goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Roger has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Bryant but great work by Roger.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Roger decides to stand back up. Roger steps back and let's Bryant get back to his feet.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Bryant has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Bryant closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Roger's guard.
Roger wants to stand but Bryant is controlling the position.

Bryant drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Roger manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Bryant has Roger in his guard.
Roger tries to stand but Bryant is controlling from the bottom.

Bryant is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Roger is aware though and is defending well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Roger stands up and waves to Bryant to follow him.
Karol Roger is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bryant is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Roger.
Roger lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Will Bryant seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Roger rushes Bryant and presses him up against the cage.

Bryant works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Bryant won't allow Roger to get back to his feet.

Bryant thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Bryant has gone for a leg lock! Roger slips out almost immediately though and dives into Bryant's guard.
Will Bryant has got the better of the ground game so far.

Roger is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Bryant had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Roger defends it easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Bryant has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Roger can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Roger knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bryant on the ground.

Roger stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Bryant closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Roger did well to prevent Bryant getting side control.

Bryant has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Roger defend it? Bryant steps over the head and cranks it - Roger is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Bryant!
