PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Harry Kalas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hugo Gramacho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kalas's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, I Abstain, Converge. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Harry Kalas!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hugo Gramacho!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Yves DeLean and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kalas moves into range and clinches up with Gramacho.
Kalas landing some nice looking knees to the body.

Kalas has Gramacho pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Kalas pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Gramacho tumbling to the mat - Kalas dives into Gramacho's guard.
Kalas stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gramacho swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gramacho can't keep his opponent in guard - Kalas advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Gramacho is trying to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kalas is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Kalas is looking for a kimura here.

Kalas looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Kalas thows a huge punch but Gramacho dodges it nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kalas thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gramacho's head.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kalas shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gramacho pinned against the cage. Gramacho gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Kalas scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Kalas tries to advance to mount but Gramacho denies him.
Kalas is breathing heavily.
Sloppy strikes there by Kalas.
Gramacho is looking for a sweep.

Kalas is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gramacho knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Gramacho is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Kalas's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Gramacho slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Kalas loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kalas accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Kalas thows a big elbow that misses.

Gramacho had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Kalas is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Gramacho Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Kalas's back instead.
Kalas tries to roll but Gramacho sticks to his back.
Kalas tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Kalas regains half guard.
Kalas is trying to get back to full guard.
Kalas moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Kalas throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Kalas keeping moving, preventing Gramacho from controlling successfully.
Kalas throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Gramacho must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kalas striking off his back but it's not causing Gramacho any problems.

Gramacho drops back looking for a leg! Kalas is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kalas manages to kick Gramacho off! Gramacho jumps back into Kalas's guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Gramacho fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Kalas moves into the clinch successfully.

Kalas pulls guard successfully.
Gramacho trying to control the position from guard on top but Kalas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kalas looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Kalas is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Kalas bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Gramacho's guard.
Gramacho trying to keep a closed guard but Kalas is proving a slippery customer.
Kalas pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gramacho is keeping the position for now.

Kalas is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Gramacho is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Gramacho has escaped and now he's on top!

Kalas has his foot on Gramacho's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gramacho works his way back into a safe position though.
