PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vamp Yre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Murtagh Hawke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hawke has chosen Sleep Now In The Fire as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Vamp Yre!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Murtagh Hawke!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hawke misses with a jab, cross combination.
Yre displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Hawke throws out the jab.
Yre displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hawke.
Hawke shoots in looking for a takedown. Yre tries to sprawl out of it but Hawke keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Yre manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Yre takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Yre closes the distance and clinches.

Yre pulls guard successfully.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Hawke prevents Yre from getting back to his feet.
Hawke stays in close to Yre's body and controls the position.
Yre is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hawke wants to control from the top but Yre keeps moving.
Hawke is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Murtagh Hawke.
Hawke tries to close the distance and clinch up but Yre swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hawke tries for a takedown but Yre sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Vamp Yre has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Murtagh Hawke.
Hawke fails with the takedown.
No luck for Hawke with that takedown attempt.

Yre throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Yre clinches with his opponent.

Hawke has Yre pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Hawke pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Yre tumbling to the mat - Hawke dives into Yre's guard.
Hawke won't allow Yre to get back to his feet.
Hawke trying to control the position from guard on top but Yre is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Yre wants to stand and escape but Hawke is having none of it.
Yre is breathing heavily.

Hawke is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Murtagh Hawke has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Yre slips a jab and a cross from Hawke.

Hawke gets tackled into the cage by Yre. Yre maintains the clinch.

Hawke tightens his grip and picks Yre up, before dumping him to the ground. Yre manages to land in guard.
Hawke landing some decent shots from guard.
Yre wants to get back to his feet but Hawke is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Hawke missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Hawke really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Yre. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hawke is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hawke won't allow Yre to get back to his feet.
Hawke cracks Yre with a solid left hand.
Hawke controls from within his opponent's guard.
It looks like Hawke might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Hawke scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Murtagh Hawke dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Hawke misses with a double jab.
Hawke shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Yre pinned against the cage. Yre gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Hawke shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Yre wants to stand up but Hawke is controlling him.
Hawke is looking to work some ground and pound but Yre has wrist control.
Yre wants to stand up but Hawke is controlling him.
Hawke must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hawke seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Yre tries to kick Hawke off but Hawke keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Hawke decides to return to a standing position.

Hawke lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hawke lands a nice short elbow.
Hawke wants to take a breather but Yre is having none of it.

Hawke looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hawke connects with a nice short shot to Yre's temple.

Yre kicks Hawke off and gets back to his feet.
Hawke dodges the punch combination from Yre.
Hawke moves in looking to clinch but Yre pushes him off.
Hawke is looking to land body kicks.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Hawke drives through with a takedown into Yre's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Hawke distracts Yre with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hawke is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Yre working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Hawke.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Murtagh Hawke showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Yre's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Hawke keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Yre's efforts to push away.
Yre jumps guard but Hawke stands there with Yre around his waist. Yre gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Yre is looking to break free of the clinch but Hawke has double underhooks.

Yre breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Yre slips under a jab from Hawke.
Yre takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Hawke tries for a takedown but Yre sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Vamp Yre has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Murtagh Hawke.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hawke misses with a looping right.
Hawke shoots in looking for a takedown but Yre manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hawke's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Hawke wants to clinch.
Hawke throws a hook but Yre blocks it.

Hawke closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Yre to the mat! Yre manages to get full guard.
Yre can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hawke controls the pace.
Hawke working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Yre's head.
Yre is looking to stand up but Hawke isn't so interested in that idea.

Hawke works over Yre with some ground and pound from guard.
Yre being controlled here, momentarily.
Hawke stops Yre from standing up.
Hawke not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hawke fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Yre sprawls well initially but Hawke persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Hawke is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Yre looks like he's trying to stand up.
Hawke working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Murtagh Hawke is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Yre is looking to get back to is feet but Hawke passes into side control.
Yre is trying to escape the position but Hawke is controlling the position.
Yre tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hawke lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Murtagh Hawke comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Hawke winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
