Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Cain Velasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ailstar Overeem!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Nard Betker and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Overeem fails in his attempt to clinch.

Overeem gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Velasquez to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Velasquez trying to control the position from guard on top but Overeem is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Velasquez throwing strikes but missing.
Velasquez could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Velasquez tries to free his leg and advance position but Overeem is retaining full guard.
Overeem trying to keep a closed guard but Velasquez is proving a slippery customer.
Overeem is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Overeem wants to stand and escape but Velasquez is having none of it.
Overeem lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Velasquez!

It looks like Cain Velasquez has been cut.
Velasquez tries to roll but Overeem sticks to his back.
Velasquez wants to control his opponent's hands but Overeem gets his hands free.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Overeem keeps control of the position easily here as Velasquez tries to buck him off.

Overeem looking to break Velasquez's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Velasquez remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Overeem will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ailstar Overeem wasn't active enough on the ground.
A slapping body kick lands there for Overeem.
Velasquez is breathing heavily.

Overeem fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Velasquez sprawls well initially but Overeem persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Velasquez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Overeem on the ground.
Overeem moves nicely into side control.
Velasquez taking punishment in the form of punches.
Velasquez is trying to control Overeem's posture but Overeem avoids it.
Overeem lands a decent elbow from side control.


Jeez, Cain Velasquez's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Overeem looks up at the clock and then as Velasquez takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Overeem smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Overeem looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Velasquez is fending him off so far but Overeem persists. Nope, Velasquez circles away and we're back to standing.

Velasquez manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Overeem is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Velasquez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Velasquez stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Velasquez wants it to stay on the feet.
Velasquez looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Velasquez shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Velasquez showed some decent athleticism there.

Overeem looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

The fighters are battling for position here. Overeem manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Velasquez wants to control from the top but Overeem keeps moving.

Velasquez looking to sit in guard and control but Overeem gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Velasquez is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Overeem stands and throws Velasquez's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Overeem tries for a kimura but Velasquez is defending well.
Velasquez is letting Overeem control him for a moment.
Velasquez is looking for a sweep.

You can see the frustration on Velasquez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Overeem is looking to take a break and control but Velasquez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Overeem happy to just control the position for now.
Overeem tries to move to mount but Velasquez blocks the move with his legs.

Ailstar Overeem showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Overeem tries to close the distance and clinch but Velasquez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Velasquez throws a head kick that misses.

Overeem shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Overeem was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Velasquez wants to hold on but Overeem pushes him away.
Velasquez is looking to improve his position but Overeem isn't that keen on the idea.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Overeem trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Overeem stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Overeem stuffs the takedown.
Overeem stalks Velasquez and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Velasquez's face. Velasquez staggers backwards, shaken.

Overeem closes the distance and clinches.

Overeem turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Overeem decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Overeem has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Overeem has managed to clinch.
Overeem lands a body punch.

Overeem breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Overeem lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Velasquez circles away quickly and effectively.
Overeem shoots for a double leg takedown but Velasquez sprawls well. He's pushed Overeem's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Overeem tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Overeem gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Velasquez counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Velasquez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Overeem bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

Overeem will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Cain Velasquez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ailstar Overeem.

Overeem is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Overeem is squirming around, avoiding Velasquez's attempts to control the action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Velasquez looking to finish Overeem with some ground and pound. This is bad for Overeem!
Cain Velasquez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ailstar Overeem is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Overeem tries to hold on but Velasquez pushes him away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ailstar Overeem comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Overeem has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
