PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matic Ocvirk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luiz Carlos Calfat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ocvirk misses with a head kick.

Ocvirk drives through with a takedown into guard.
Calfat keeping moving, preventing Ocvirk from controlling successfully.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Calfat can do anything to dispel that myth.

Ocvirk stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Calfat is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Ocvirk shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Ocvirk is keen to just control but Calfat is a slippery customer.

Ocvirk is really struggling to control Calfat but he's trying to hold on to the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
You get the feeling that Calfat really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Ocvirk has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Calfat's face.
Calfat wants to try and get back to his feet.
Ocvirk in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Ocvirk takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Ocvirk tries to break free but Calfat pushes him back against the cage.
Calfat drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Ocvirk gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Calfat is trying to force a seperation but Ocvirk has the dominant position.
Calfat looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Calfat tightens his grip and picks Ocvirk up, before dumping him to the ground. Ocvirk manages to land in guard.

Calfat must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ocvirk throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Calfat works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Calfat is looking to stand up but Ocvirk isn't so interested in that idea.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ocvirk wants to get up but he can't break Calfat's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Calfat wants to stand but Ocvirk is controlling the position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Ocvirk has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Calfat is proving hard to escape from.
Calfat wants to stand up but Ocvirk is controlling him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Ocvirk closes the distance and clinches.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Ocvirk swings wildly with an uppercut but Calfat uses good head movement to avoid it.
Calfat is looking to break free of the clinch but Ocvirk has double underhooks.
Calfat is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Calfat breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ocvirk throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Calfat counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Ocvirk wants to get back to his feet.
Ocvirk tries to roll over but Calfat keeps him under control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Calfat tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Ocvirk tries to get to full guard but Calfat has control of the leg.
Calfat really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ocvirk. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Calfat tries to break free but Ocvirk pushes him back against the cage.

Calfat is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Ocvirk can't fight it off and eventually Calfat manages to take the fight to the floor. Ocvirk looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Ocvirk gets underhooks to prevent Calfat's takedown attempt.

Ocvirk breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Ocvirk fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Calfat sprawls well initially but Ocvirk persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Ocvirk is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Calfat is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
