PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gevin Gamer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Keisuke Honda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gevin Gamer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Keisuke Honda!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Kenichi Hosakawa and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gamer gets a takedown into half guard.
Gamer is nestled in close to Honda, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Honda can do anything to dispel that myth.
Gamer tries to stand but can't do so whilst Honda controls his leg.
Honda keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Honda pushes Gamer off and gets back to his feet.

Gamer feints and as Honda raises his hands in defense, Gamer changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Honda really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gamer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Honda is pulling down on Gamer's head. It's preventing any offense from Gamer, at least for the moment.

Honda wriggles free and stands up.

Honda looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Gamer!
Gamer is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Honda stands up from mount. Strange move.

Honda shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Honda showed some decent athleticism there.
Gamer wants to get back to his feet.
Honda is keen to just control but Gamer is a slippery customer.

Honda seems to be working for a kimura but Gamer defends the submission attempt.

Gamer is refusing to be controlled, as Honda sits in half guard.
Gamer moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Gamer trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Gamer could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Honda tries to free his leg and advance position but Gamer is retaining full guard.
Honda controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Honda postures up.
Honda controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Gamer looking to control.

We're going to have a standup here because Gevin Gamer wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Gamer bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Honda looks gassed!
Honda is trying to control Gamer's posture but Gamer avoids it.
Honda is trying to get back to his feet.
Gamer cracks Honda with a big elbow.
Gamer throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Gamer scores with a couple of short elbows.
Honda prevents Gamer from improving position.

Gamer working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Gamer misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Gamer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Honda sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Honda keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Honda tries to roll over but Gamer keeps him under control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Gamer is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Honda sees it coming and defends easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gevin Gamer will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Gamer has Honda up against the cage in a clinch.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Honda jumps guard.
Gamer tries to free his leg and advance position but Honda is retaining full guard.
Gamer trying to control but Honda is working from the bottom.

Honda is looking for a triangle but Gamer pushes his legs off easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Honda not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Honda keeping full guard, as Gamer tries to pass.

Honda kicks Gamer off and gets to his feet.
Honda is breathing heavily.

Gamer shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Gamer landing strikes from the mount and Honda is in trouble!
Gamer wants to control the pace but Honda is squirming around nicely.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Gamer cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Gamer wants to finish this one by submission but Honda is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Gamer.

Gamer thowing shots but they're missing.

Gamer is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Honda has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Honda!
Gamer throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gamer is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Honda is controlling him.
Gamer lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Honda!

Honda wants to hold on but Gamer pushes him away.
Gamer landing strikes, looking to finish!
Honda tries to hold on but Gamer pushes him away.
Gamer thowing shots but they're missing.
Honda really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Gamer wants to control the pace but Honda is squirming around nicely.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gamer is landing with some decent strikes but Honda is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Gamer is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Honda has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Honda!
Gamer keeping moving, preventing Honda from controlling successfully.
Honda looking to sit in guard and control but Gamer gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Gamer trying to control the position from guard on top but Honda is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gevin Gamer dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Gamer shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Honda's guard.

Gamer got a little sloppy there for a moment and Honda has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gamer has managed to get both his arms back between Honda's legs - danger averted.
Honda working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Gamer.

Honda holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Gamer trying to control the action but Honda is working from the bottom.
Gamer wants to stand up but Honda has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Gamer is just content to waste time from the top position. Honda takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Gamer scoring with some ground and pound.
Gamer cracks Honda with a solid left hand.
Gamer has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Honda is proving hard to escape from.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gamer passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Gamer advances to full mount.
Gamer with shots to the head and body - Honda looks very uncomfortable down there.
Gamer looking to control but Honda is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Gamer swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Honda is now in Gamer's guard. A big mistake from Gamer there, giving up the dominant position!
Gevin Gamer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Honda is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Gamer is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Gamer has escaped and now he's on top!

Gamer distracts Honda with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Gamer preventing the sweep.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gamer accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Gamer trying to control the position from guard on top but Honda is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gamer works over Honda with some ground and pound from guard.
Keisuke Honda has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Honda tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Gamer thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Honda keeping full guard, as Gamer tries to pass.

Gamer is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Gamer loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gevin Gamer showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Gamer has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
