The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maynard lands with a shot to the body.
Ricky stuffs the takedown attempt from Maynard. Maynard gets slowly back to his feet.
Ricky throws a right and a left that both miss.

Maynard drives through with a takedown into Ricky's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Maynard seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ricky for as long as he can get away with.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Ricky controls Maynard momentarily but Maynard frees himself.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Ricky shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Maynard counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Ricky has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Maynard is working away from the top position though.
Maynard takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Ricky is looking for a sweep.
Ricky wants to get back to his feet but Maynard drags him back down.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Maynard uses his free foot to push down on Ricky's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Ricky.

Maynard shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Ricky manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Ricky feints a jab promting Maynard to slip. Ricky then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Maynard slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Maynard bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Maynard drives through with a takedown into Ricky's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Maynard stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ricky swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
