PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Duran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Lexus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duran's entrance music is Immortale Technique - Death March. A fine choice. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lexus takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

It looks like Bobby Lexus has been cut.
Duran misses with an uppercut
and Lexus counters with a stiff right hand.

Lexus shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Duran really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Lexus throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Lexus tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Lexus cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Duran wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Lexus.
Duran manages to work a leg through to get back to half guard here. Good work there by Duran, under a barage of strikes from Lexus.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Lexus really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Duran. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lexus seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Lexus is taking a breather. Duran says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Bobby Lexus.

and Duran takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Duran takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Lexus rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Duran counters with a one-two to the body.
Lexus throws a lazy uppercut
and Duran makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Duran throws a hook but Lexus avoids it easily.
Lexus shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Duran sprawls well. Duran wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Lexus gets slowly back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Duran on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
A jab from Lexus does it's job there.
Lexus scores with a crisp jab that stopped Duran in his tracks.
Lexus shoots for a double leg takedown but Duran sprawls well. He's pushed Lexus's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Duran counters with a nice body shot.

and Duran counters with a stiff right hand.
Duran lands with a right hand.
Sloppy strikes from Duran. Those never looked like landing.

Lexus on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Lexus fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Duran avoids it really well and circles away.
Horrible takedown by Lexus or perhaps it was just good defense by Duran which made him look bad.
Mike Duran has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bobby Lexus.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Duran connects with a right hand. Lexus shakes it off.
Lexus swats away the attempt to clinch by Duran.
Duran lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Lexus circles away quickly and effectively.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Duran looks to land a left hand but Lexus moved out of range nicely.
Duran swings for the body but Lexus moves out of range.

and Duran counters with a lovely straight right hand!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lexus throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Duran's waist but Duran gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lexus off to one side.

Duran lands a jab to the nose.
A jab from Duran misses.
Lexus keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Duran ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Lexus throws out a loose jab but Duran uses good head movement to avoid it.
Lexus misses with a left hand
and Duran counters with a three punch combo that has Lexus backing up. Lexus nods at Duran to acknowledge the strikes.

Duran tries to sprawl but Lexus drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Lexus working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Duran's thigh. Duran counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Duran is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Lexus postures up in Duran's guard and throws a big left but Duran blocks it.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mike Duran.
I think Duran has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
