PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Davor Kocina (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fedor Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Davor Kocina!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fedor Emelianenko!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Steve Smith and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Emelianenko tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Kocina counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Emelianenko tries to strike from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Emelianenko has his foot on Kocina's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kocina works his way back into a safe position though.
Emelianenko wants to sweep but no luck.
Emelianenko is wriggling around but Kocina manages to pass to half guard.

Kocina decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Emelianenko tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Emelianenko stuffs the takedown.
Emelianenko tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Kocina counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Emelianenko is looking to control Kocina's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Emelianenko avoid being mounted?
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Emelianenko can do anything to dispel that myth.
Kocina tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Emelianenko.
Emelianenko should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Emelianenko scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Kocina manages to mount him!

Kocina is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Emelianenko doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Kocina decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Emelianenko's guard.

Emelianenko looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Kocina passes into half guard.
Emelianenko looks gassed!

Emelianenko looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Kocina pushes past his half guard into mount!
Emelianenko wants to hold on but Kocina pushes him away.

Kocina is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Nice takedown defense from Emelianenko. No joy for Kocina on that attempt.

Kocina avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Emelianenko gets caught napping as Kocina dives in and scores a takedown. Emelianenko manages to retain guard.

Kocina decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Emelianenko, up you get!
Emelianenko stuffs the takedown attempt from Kocina. Kocina gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Davor Kocina. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kocina fails with a takedown attempt.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kocina closes the distance and clinches up with Emelianenko, looking for a takedown. Kocina pushes Emelianenko against the cage but Emelianenko circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Davor Kocina dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Emelianenko counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Kocina's guard now.

Davor Kocina overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Emelianenko works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Kocina won't allow Emelianenko to pass to mount.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kocina looks like he's trying to stand up.
Emelianenko trying to control the action but Kocina is working from the bottom.
Emelianenko really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kocina. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Emelianenko scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Emelianenko is looking to take a break and control but Kocina is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Emelianenko seems to be working for a kimura but Kocina defends the submission attempt.
Kocina wants to get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Emelianenko trying to control from half guard but Kocina is working away.
Kocina tries to kick Emelianenko off but Emelianenko keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Emelianenko trying to control from Kocina's half guard. Kocina has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Emelianenko won't allow Kocina to get back to his feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Emelianenko sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Kocina doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Emelianenko paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Kocina - great work!
